I had assumed that my iPad 2 was obsolete years ago when updates stopped being pushed to it. Imagine my surprise when I found out I had to update it to a new version. It may not affect you but it's an update to correct an issue with GPS localization. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210239 "I'm yet another resource-consuming kid in an overpopulated planet raised to an alarming extent by Hollywood and Madison Avenue, poised with my cynical and alienated peers to take over the world when you're old and weak!" - Calvin, "Calvin & Hobbes"

I dug out an old iPad Mini last used years ago; set it to update the iOS and it updated to 9.3.6. Doesn’t have all the functions of a new iPad, but for web surfing and reading Kindle books it’s great. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I also have a 1G iPad. No, this update won't work. We are doomed to rock 5.1.1 for eternity.

Ignored facts still exist |
updated my 4 year old ipad this morning. I thought it was obsolete and done in terms of updates, but I guess not. Kind of reminds me of Win XP back when it was going away. "It's done, oh wait, one more update, then it's really done. Oh, not quite yet, we need a security update." Then it finally went away. .
