Probably sex play. But he fell asleep before he came out to "interrogate" her.

We had an officer get trapped in the car once. He was cleaning up vomit from a drunk in his back seat on a windy night and a gust came along. The door closed and he spent twenty minutes trying to figure a way out before embarrassing himself by calling out on the radio.

I had a take home car. We didn’t use cages (the cage and seat were over $1500.00 each...)and the prisoner sat up front with us-so the rear doors were never altered to not open from the inside. But anyone in my house could have gotten the keys for the car off the counter.

The cars that do have cages have the locks disabled and any switches for the windows. Some departments have an interior set of bars that prevent a prisoner from getting to the glass. Some of them are covered in Lexan or plexiglass, and of course there is a partition from getting to the front compartment.

I could see how someone could be trapped inside a police car and not have a way to break a window or get out.

My wife never moved my police car or messed with it. But she had access, as well as my big kid. He only moved it once so he could wash his car while I was sleeping (night shift).

This is a very sad story. I can’t imagine dying that way. Uggggh

As many windows as I’ve seen busted out, this story surprises me. Sad though. But I would think it was avoidable even after the door closed.

I wonder if she tried a headrest break. Most people try to use the headrest posts as impact tools, which may or may not be successful. If you try this method, target the corners of the window, not the center which you'll just bounce off of (common error).

A more reliable technique is the leverage break, as this young woman successfully demonstrates. Brute force not required, almost effortless...

I have no direct knowledge of this, but I find the story problematic on the surface.

Our cars have bars inside to prevent the windows being kicked out, but it seems SOMEONE would have heard her kicking and screaming.

Depends on the car and the cage setup. No headrests in mine, it's one solid piece of plastic. Both of my cars have had half-cages, which is desirable because it limits the suspect's ability to lie on their back and kick the window out. My current car has just the factory interior door panel, so with enough impact someone could likely break the window (it's harder than it sounds, though). My old car had bars over the window...once you were in there there's no getting out...best you could hope for is to somehow break the window through the bars to let air in and be able to yell for help.

It's a sad story, but it would have been prevented had she been more careful. It's a cage...it's designed to keep people in...if there was a safe way for someone to get out, it wouldn't be effective.

Kkina, they take the headrests out of cars with cages, to prevent the prisoner being able to use it as an escape tool.

A motivated individual with enough time should be able to kick a rear window out. It’s not easy, but if the alternative was die...

Again, unfortunate.

Give her a break she is deceased and I am sure her husband is grieving her loss. This was an accident not something deserving of a Darwin award.

So I look at this different ways.
I doubt there was foul play.
If I was in the back of a cop car in the same situation as her, I would have been able to free myself. For one, it’s highly unlikely I would have ended Up trapped to begin with. I have a great understanding of leverage, engineering, and some pretty good strength. I may break a bone or two, and maybe need some stitches but I would have gotten out.

I look at my wife. Mostly unaware of her surroundings. Easily could have ended up trapped in the back of the car. She’s not a stupid woman, she’s actually really smart. She just doesn’t have great situational awareness.
Trapped. Highly unlikely she could get out. She wouldn’t know where to begin. Where I would be using the seat belt as a cantilever, and the seat belt clip to break the glass, or many other options, she would never think of this. She’s a small 5’1” and 105 lbs woman. Not enough strength to bend metal or break glass to get out. The first sign of blood or pain, she would wait for help.

So I look at this as a really unfortunate situation. Poor woman. What a shit thing to have happen. So sorry for her husband as well.
