What in the world does the Secretary of Education do to justify 24/7 security at ~$20 Million/year?
Seriously. What possible contribution to this country and the world can a person in such a position make, even in the most theoretical sense, to make that expense worth it at all?

Has she personally solved the plethora of issues that plague our education system? Did she personally invent a new way to teach complex mathematics or even hire the one who did?

Did she, even as a lowly administrator sort, actually optimize and improve things within our education system? Is it, say, 30% more efficient under her, ahem, leadership? No.

Is this fool the second coming of Plato, Newton, da Vinci, Einstein, Jefferson, Franklin, or a thousand other people who actually made a real contribution to educating the world?

Fuck No! She doesn't even deserve to breathe the same air as the world's great thinkers and educators. She's slug slime compared to them, on her very best day.

There's simply no fucking way this fool necessitates or deserves such an absurd expense. The Secretary of Education is 14th in the Presidential Line of Succession. Fourteenth, FFS...

And it's not like all Cabinet Members get such protection.

WTF is going on here?

How is this anything other than yet another absurdly wasteful expense on our dime?

Well it wouldn't be necessary if Antifa and the other crazy leftards would stop threatening and harassing everyone they consider to be an evil Nazi. Perhaps they could use the vote to express their opinion?

Nice hit piece on DeVos from NBC.

No coincidence that NBC released this article the same day, the Dept of Education has released new Title IX regulations regarding Due Process.

ACLU's response to Due Process:

Look she advocated for guns in schools to protect kids from Grizzly bear attacks. Go easy on her.

It is a lot of $, but not 20 mil per year.

It is 20 mil for 3 years.

Still expensive, but the left hates her

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos unveiled new Title IX rules Friday which offer more due process protection for persons accused of sexual harassment. The rule changes, in part, narrow the definition of sexual misconduct and require alleged victims to provide a higher standard of evidence. The incident must also be reported to certain officials, and it must have occurred on campus.

Groups critical of the move, like the ACLU, say the proposed changes will "make schools less safe for survivors of sexual assault and harassment" and further discourage victims from reporting crimes.

bullshit

Some people are so opposed to the Title IX announcement that they are threatening DeVos. The threats are so serious that she now needs 24/7 security from the U.S. Marshals Service. It's a frightening thing, but some media are choosing to focus on the cost of the added security, as opposed to the necessity of it.

They also hate her because her brother is Erik Prince, owner of what used to be Blackwater.

Erik Prince is quite the character. His life would be an interesting movie. I imagine he has his hands into all kinds of stuff.

Why doesn't she purchase and carry a handgun like the rest of us?

That would be a lot cheaper.

I agree. The Left wants to play games, this is the end result. I don't care much it costs.

You're right, it's not $20 Million a year, more like an average of $8 Million a year. By Grabthar's hammer, wow what a savings. I mean, that's *only* ~$22,000/day to protect her.

No big deal, eh? A nearly useless privileged bureaucrat in a nearly useless position. I ask again... what, precisely, or hell - even theoretically, does she do to warrant this expense?

I'd imagine much of it is out of her control - as a Cabinet member, I'd imagine there's full time security that she neither wants or asks for.

I'm opposed the high cost, but I'm not a big fan of bullies and Antifa crap roughing her up when we she appears in public.

I’m thinking that the threats against her are a bit more significant than the threats against the rest of us.

We shouldn't even have a Secretary of Education. Education isn't a federal matter. Leave it to the states.

One could argue that point but then you realize how behind the curve SC and MS are and wonder if the money we DO spend is worth a crap

So what? She's just another one of these privileged 'do what I say, not what I do' assholes. Didn't that prick Pruitt have a detail like this too and spent loads of my tax dollars on a new 'quiet room' or safe room or whatever the hell it was when the building he worked in already had one? If she wants the security she should pay for it herself. She doesn't need anything more than whatever is standard and I don't want to f'ing pay for it. Who the fuck do these people think they are?

If you read the article, and if you read the previous comments in the thread, you would have read that the security detail is not by her request.

Well if the security is supposed to be tied to the importance of the position, why waste money protecting ex presidents and their families?

I give you that. But since since there’s a Sec. of Education cabinet position, it’s good that we have one that advocates for school choice.

There wouldn't be a dime spent on security if the office holder didn't have to worry about threats from insurgents.
