The ups and downs of this in the micro picture are bit of burden, though not unexpected.

I am thinking of the time shortly before Mrs LBJ's mother died some years ago.
She was in her eighties, had cancer and I think was days away from dying.
Her mother at the time said "Dying is for the birds."

I took that at face value thinking she meant something simple like dying sucks.
Now I understand what she really meant and her comment was quite deeper than I initially thought.
My new line of thinking about what she meant is that the long process of knowing you are dying in advance is burdensome and takes a lot out of you, that you can simply begin to grow weary of dying.

I am beginning to understand that part.
I still want to live of course for sometime yet, but still.
