Best of spirits (and luck). A grade-school friend is going through something similar. After not knowing what was going on, he is relieved to find out he has some "breathing space". And regales us of all the natural events that could happen before his cancer takes him.

Thanks all.

Last night, I grilled a hamburger. While it used to be my favorite thing for eating, it had a bad taste and the dogs got it.

ARGH! The Votrient is killing my taste buds.
I ended up drinking 2 Ensures instead.

I have been through chemo many times and one thing I found was that I could always taste lemon. I found that I could eat ok as long as I had plenty of lemonade or even just lemon water to drink with my food.

I always enjoyed fried eggs.

When I was in treatment the wife would get some round glass dishes and poach eggs in a large frying pan of water with a lid on it. They were the size of an English muffin. Near the end she would add sharp cheddar cheese and some cooked bacon on top of it.
Would toast the English Muffins halves and butter them well.

The flavor I tasted the most was that rich real butter and muffin flavors. Everything else was rather bland.

I am looking into getting most of my nutritional needs in liquid form.
The problem I have is my taste buds. Everything for the most part tastes bad, really bad.

It's the number of bites at a meal that is the problem, it is torturous.

I can, however, pound liquids quickly in one long run without putting it down, and therefore, it's like one bite instead of dozens.

I have also upped the Votrient from 600mg to 800mg again with some success. Some of the side effects are better now that body has gotten semi used to it.

However, as soon as I upped to the recommended 800mg, I am so tired again, like I have run a marathon.

And life goes on... for now.

Another grenade effect on my wife this morning.
Apparently she had nightmares about being attacked and calling out for me, but she knew it wouldn't help because I was already dead.

Geez, more shrapnel flying around.

Have you tried less salt?

When I went through chemo I couldn't stand salt.

Well that and I could just barely taste spicy food. It had to be really hot for me to taste it at what I consider a low medium.

It's been 2 weeks or more at the full dose of the Votrient immuno drug, rather than 3/4 dose.

I think my body is beginning to get used to it.
I still have no taste and fatigue, nothing new there, but some of the other side effects have abated, so good news I suppose. You know, things like gastro intestinal problems and throwing up have gone away.

The youngest daughter is coming in from Dallas next week (she has a wedding to attend) and will stay at our house.
That is certainly good news.
And it gets better as she has requested we go shooting while she is here. Who am I to say no.
The whole fam damily is going shooting.

Also on the menu for next week:
The oft dreaded family portrait time.

Mrs. LBJ did not find it funny when I asked her if she thought we could get the photographer to airbrush me in the final product, making me semi transparent.
I can't imagine why she did not see the humor in that. I thought it was funny.
