I just looked through some of their site. It looks like the small lights are not that way. A number of their lights that are 18650 size or bigger require a “customized” battery which is what I was shopping for.

My Seeker model uses a 26650 battery which is rather like a rechargeable version of a long C-cell. They are not frequently designed into flashlights like the 18650, for example, but they are available from several different makers and are not exclusive to Olight.

I understand that. If you look on their website a number of their lights that use 18650 or 21700 batteries need their proprietary batteries.

I think you'll find that Olight uses that 'Customized' term in relation to batteries in lights which employ the magnetic charging option. They've merely adapted the bottom of the battery to allow use with their magnetic USB chargers which attach to the base.

That said, you can still use standard 18650, 26650, 21700, etc. in those lights as long as the dimensions, voltage and capacity are comparable to the Olight branded batteries. You will just be unable to employ the magnetic charger and will have to use any conventional charger which takes the battery in question.

From googling there are some that won’t even turn on without their battery.

Some Olights require the Olight battery that has both positive and negative terminals on the same end.

As noted in my previous post, that feature merely allows you to use the magnetic charging feature which attaches at the base. The Olight battery is only required if you wish/need to utilize that charging feature.

I have several lights, including an R50 Seeker, which employ this feature. When I first misplaced the charging disc, I merely inserted another brand 26650 which had been charged on a conventional charger and continued to operate the light normally with the exception of having to remove the battery from the light to recharge it.

Not all Olight flashlights which use the 'customized' battery are limited to the use of that battery only. That information can be very helpful in case you find yourself without a proprietary charging disc and need to use your light.

I buy from them directly mostly though I’ve bought a few from Amazon as well.

The M2R Pro will only work with the Olight custom battery.
I realize some other Olights will work with standard batteries and will only charge with Olight batteries.

I have one of their little ones (single AAA battery) and it has been satisfactory.

I have a 515A in my vest pocket now. It has a 14500 rechargeable battery and it has lasted for years. It rode in my bunker coat pocket until I retired this year. Just plug it into my computer every once in a while and it's good to go. It was a little pricy but well worth it in the long run.
