One of my co workers is talking to me about getting his first gun. Unfortunately he is in FLA while I am in NH (gotta love telecommuting), so I have no knowledge of good & reputable stores in his area.
I would like to steer him to a store with a knowledgeable staff that won't take advantage of his lack of experience or try to sell him a piece of crap.
Also, if there is a range in the area that has rentals, I would like him to be able to try before he buys.

They have a large indoor range that's clean and well lit. They have A LOT of rental guns so he can try them before buying. They also have instructors and things of that nature. Very large inventory of new and used guns with fair prices, nice people that work there.

I'm not sure if he's still there, but SIGforum member Tuckerrnr1 was working at a gun shop in Eau Gallie (Melbourne area).
If your friend gets as far north as the Daytona Beach area, Florida Gun Exchange is a good place to shop.
Last, but DEFINITELY not least, is Top Gun Supply. The original Ohio location has been open for a long time, they recently opened a branch in St. Augustine FL.

Everyone on here is always looking for the best price on guns. But most all of us are very knowledgable. However, I have no issues with a local gun store making an extra 5-10% on a firearm, if they have a very knowledgable and polite staff, take 30-60 minutes of time to show a new shooter many different firearms, how the different triggers work, and find the best first firearm that fits them best. Sometimes paying a little extra for service is well worth it.
We've all been in some gun shops where all of the employees have their hand on their holster, are hard to deal with, and don't want to really spend any time with new shooters and sometimes even give them a hard time or take advantage of them.
Shoot straight is pretty good, but a fast paced store and I think at Gun World he'd get better time spent with him. I've never been to Lee's gun and pawn that I know of (I might have wandered in there and don't remember), so cannot comment on them.
