I don't know what percentage of sales are due to customers picking up stuff they remember at the last minute, or on an impulse, but it's significant, I bet. There's value to getting online customers into the store for time to time. Forcing them to always park 600 ft. away would discourage that.
This is definitely one of Walmart's strategies. After picking up items (not food) ordered from Walmart.com, I get a survey that includes questions about whether I bought anything while picking up and if so how much did I spend. |

We use Instacart. If I need stuff I usually go get it. But wife likes just having it show up. But I'm usually picky about what meats I want. Which pack of bacon and etc. So that's the stuff I really care about. Having it delivered means I can play with my son for a hour. Spend 10 minutes putting away groceries. Versus shopping for a hour.

| Just wanted to follow-up my first experience ordering groceries online and pick-up with Walmart. Excellent! My appt time was 11am and I went down and the online grocery pick-up is located on the back side of the store where they off load the grocery trucks. No interference with the regular Walmart grocery shoppers as they all park on the other three sides of the store. Five spaces are well marked and have an overhead canopy, I guess this is in case of fast rain showers here in South Florida. All spaces were available, I pulled in and called the online grocery by phone in the store. My order was waiting, they send you an email confirmation that it's completed and awaiting pick-up. It took 5min for a young lady to roll out my groceries. I just popped the trunk, she loaded them up and, I was on my way in a total of less than 20min total. The order was perfect, the service was great, and I give them 2-thumbs up for the whole experience. She said they have been doing this online service for a month now at this Walmart and she mentioned they had around 30 pick-ups yesterday, so it's catching on here. The hardest part was unloading all the stuff at home myself. I'm purchasing one of those portable aluminum carts with the wheels to get the stuff from the car into the house by myself. I'll do whatever I can tolerate endurance wise these days. The experience is top notch and plan on continuing ordering and pick-up as long as I'm able. I'd guess in the future more large chain Grocery stores will follow suit.
Regards, Will G.

Delusions of Adequacy
| I'll have to check it out again. The last time I checked the program at my local store, the online order prices were higher than the in store prices, plus delivery charges.

| I'd never do it.
But, my sister who is going through a divorce has a 3 year old and a 7 year old. She does it because there isn't another easy way for her to grocery shop. |

You'd have to have someone that understands the floor layout, not every store is setup the same way even in the same chain.
I can go to the three Publix stores near me and all three have different layouts.
I have 2 publix stores within 2 miles of my house and the same thing, but I also run in other ones for various shopping sometimes. It pisses me off to no end. You have to then find everything all over again because the aisles are totally different. My sister did mention the Publix prices were higher about 10-20% if you did the online ordering, but it does make sense as you are paying an employee to wander around the store and get the stuff. Publix tried a delivery service where they delivered the food right to your house, about 15 years ago. They charged a $8 monthly fee, but then abandoned the idea after a few months......probably because most idiots weren't home when they went to deliver it. |

| I an a vendor for Walmart and Kroger, I have to compete with aisle space for the pickers, they take what's on the shelf and will sub for something close if what you want is out or they cant find it. |

| My son is a quadriplegic who lives independently. This service has been a blessing to him. They charge $5.00 at the store closest to him. Wal-Mart offers the service for free. The Wal-Mart app on his phone tracks his departure from him home and notifies the store when he arrives so the order can be placed in his trunk.

I'm filled with gratitude for the blessings I've received.

Thank you Very little
| think about the number of times you handle an item when shopping, the average item is touched in order to get home for consumption, at least 7 to 8 times.
Order online and your part in that drops to 3, remove from car, remove from bag, place in storage either pantry or refrigerator.
It saves you quite a bit of handling, transferring the work to the employee, and since Wal-Mart has hand scanners they'll scan the item as it goes into the cart saving a step for checkout.
For those with limited mobility or difficulty in travelling to the store it's a good thing, and you'll save big money from reducing your hungry aisle searching down the cookie, chips and beer aisle. So you might even save some money. |

| We have been doing it for the past three or four months. We order at least once, sometimes twice a week. We are very satisfied with the service. We live close to our Wally and can call in, drive to the store, get the goods delivered and be home within six minutes. I have yet to find a down side to it. Beats the hell out of getting out of the car and going into the store!
