But this time, it doesn't involve me. Razz

And, it's real puzzler that I hope some LEOs here can shed some light on it.

Again, midnight. Going home from parents' house. Was approaching the exact same location as in the last incident, I heard siren blaring, looked over the far left lane and saw a constable SUV with light flashing following this white car. The light was red, so I stopped this time, of course. The white car also stopped at red. Looking over, I saw this blonde lady driver and no one else in the car, and she appeared totally calm. I was expecting the constable to turn off the siren and stepped out, but it kept blaring away. And within seconds, another seven or eight cop SUVs joined the scene, all stopped behind the white car, but no one stepped out, all them ligts flashing/sirens blaring. What the heck, I said. Light then turned green, and I had to get on that far left lane to be able to turn on the next light. So, I went to the left lane, with the white car behind me and all the cop SUVs following. The next light was red again. So, now, I sitting in front of everyone, with their situation unchanged. When the light turned green, I turned, looking back and saw the same procession moving on at just normal speed. All this time, none of the SUVs would move ahead.

Initial thought was a simple traffic stop, but that went out the window when another eight SUVs showed up.

Then, I thought a slow-speed chase like OJ decades ago. Nope, that doesn't make sense, either. Because if it were, they would have surrounded her at the red light. And, she wouldn't have stopped at the red light in the first place.

Were they escorting her somewhere? Doesn't make sense, either. Because if it was so important, they would have cleared the way and wouldn't have stopped at red lights.

So, what could possibly have been going on?

No freaking clue but a siren blaring (esp. at a red light), is one sound I don’t ever want to hear again if I can help it. Over 3 decades was enough for me.
When I would move up to Captain for a shift or two, I would turn off the damn siren since it was 0300 and there was NO TRAFFIC in sight for miles. The new/acting engineers would get surprised at my audacity. Big Grin

Could be anything?

Car was reported stolen?

Car matches one that was recently in a pursuit?

They wanted you out of the way before they made their approach?

EIGHT police SUV's?

More than we have in our county.

I'm guessing that she's the one who had collected the pizza.

I find that the police website for active calls is helpful when wondering what you observe.

https://activecalls.henrico.gov

Your area may have such a website. You can search for active calls and read the basics of each call.

Regarding X units responding, our officers manage the number of units to ensure resolution. For instance, you may need a Spanish speaking officer, and the first units may not speak Spanish. So, another shows up. There is a lot of data from the license plate. There is also a record of all previous calls for a given license plate, indicating high risk of injury or flight or mental disorder, things like that. You just don't know what the officers know, and units are most often there to help.

Sounds like the Lojack was going off. And those units all had trackers.

I think I'd have let that whole shitshow clear out from the first light. She may not look crazy, but you know how that goes sometimes.

I've gotten much more aware of avoiding risk of being in a bonkers situation than in my youth.

Right turn, Clyde. Smile

Harris county has an est population of 5,009,302. Takes a few more than 8 constables to patrol it all.
It's also larger than Rhode Island
1,777 sq mi for Harris County
1,545 sq mi for RI

Texas must be different. In Florida, you let the emergency vehicles with the flashing lights and sirens get ahead of you, rather than jumping out in front of them and crossing their path.

Yeahhh, your OJ chase was probably correct. At my dept we couldn’t have more than 2 cars in a chase, but other guys would follow behind to assist.

And we were prohibited from boxing in people, so that’s probably what was going on.

Coulda been drunk-I’ve followed them right to their house and the answere to the question why was they didn’t want their car towed.

Or she coulda been having a medical emergency. I’ve seen videos of people having strokes at the wheel who keep driving. Scary.
