I retired last week, and decided it’s time to replace my rusted out 2000 Ford F-250. In Vermont it’s hard to make them last. After looking at new and newer trucks, I decided there is no way I’m paying $30,000- 100,000 for a truck! I started looking on Craigslist in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and found a few that interested me. I was wondering if any of you might have spotted a truck for sale that was rust free and in good shape. Thought I would post roughly what I’m looking for in case one of you know here one can be had. Ford F-250 or 350. 4x4 Non duelly. 2006- 2016? 5.4 or 6.2 gas engine. Under 140,000 would be nice. Don’t really need a full 4 door, but will look at all of them. I’d like to stay with Ford so I can swap my 8’ fisher plow, but the right Chevy/GMC 2500/3500? This is a shot in the dark, thanks for looking! Umm, no on the 3V 5.4 gas V8 (2004 and up). The earlier 2V 5.4 is fine (ok can blow out spark plugs and I know about this motor as I have one) but the 3V 5.4 is one of the worst motors that Ford has ever built. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six | |||

The blowing plugs issue is easily resolved with a set of helicoil inserts. On another note the Ford 6.2 gas V-8 is a good motor and should be what you are looking for.This message has been edited. Last edited by: sigarms229, Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six | |||

I have the 5.4, 137k and no issues so far, but I’d feel better if I had the 5.0 coyote. Anyways, have you looked at having a truck shipped to you from CarMax? Their shipping fees are reasonable. Posted from my iPhone. | |||

I have a truck for sale. 71000 original miles, I am second owner for the past 9.5yrs. Purchased at 34000 from original owner in 12/2012. Southern truck, no rust. Non-smoker (original and me). No pets. 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty, Lariat, 4X4, Crew Cab (CC), short wheel base (SWB), single rear wheel (SRW) with 7.3 Diesel engine. Automatic 4 speed with overdrive. Super low miles for year and engine is known for being good for half a million miles or more. Gold in color. Leather interior, leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, sliding rear cab glass, A/C, manual locking hubs with electronic 4X4 control, power front seats, keyless remote entry, front bucket seats with huge console, rear bench seat, overhead console with trip gauge and compass, factory floor mats (look like new), AM/FM CD and Cassette factory stereo, Firestone rear air bags and factory tow hitch and trailer wiring. Truck is super clean and very nice. Has been garaged kept. Michelin tires with like new tread. New front brake pads and rotors. No rust. Bullet brand spray in bed liner, just like LineX. Undercover brand hard cargo bed cover. WeatherTech floor liners front and rear. Tinted windows. If your interested, though you did say 5.4 or 6.2, my email is in my profile. It really is as clean as a new one, I am known for taking very good care of my vehicles and "stuff" for that matter. I can send some pics if you like via email. Just before Christmas I fulfilled my desire for a pre emissions diesel truck. I’ve been looking for one for a while and had one come up at a dealer in TN. It was registered in Orlando, FL by one owner it’s entire life before then. It’s a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab diesel with 93,000 miles at the time and not a single speck of rust to be found anywhere. I had just missed out on a few others but was able to buy this one. I flew down to Nashville and had the dealer pick me up in the truck and drove it home. The truck is in excellent shape, with a bunch of service records and the interior was like new as well. It needs some wet sanding and buffing to bring the finish back to where it should be but even if I ended up painting the whole thing it would still be cheaper than fixing rust. I paid $30k for the truck and as soon as I got it home drove it over to a place in VT that applied “Corrosion Free” rust protection and I’m confident that as long as I get it treated every year that it will remain rust free. I’m very very pleased with my purchase. I’ve made some small upgrades like an improved stereo with wireless CarPlay and a backup camera and now have everything I really wanted in a truck. So my advice is absolutely to go find a southern, rust free truck and bring it back. Make sure to treat it annually with a oil based undercoating (Corrosion Free is the best from my research with Krown 2nd) and you should be able to keep it for a long time. These trucks today are built exceedingly well and will last a long time as long as they are taken care of and not allowed to rust away. Take your time and be choosy and you’ll find something to your liking. Ditto on finding a southern truck. My Dodge Ram came from Virginia. ‘95 bought in ‘14 with 95k miles. Nice shape. Had it painted (sunburn). Old enough for antique tags now, still runs and looks great. Cummins 12v diesel. Price of fuel hurts…. | |||
