Does A Restaurant Name Influence You Eating There?
It can.

How about "The Snake Pit" in the middle of nowhere, Idaho.
Depends. If it's overly cutesy, rhyme-y, has the words buffet or, all-you-can-eat...I'm suspicious and likely to avoid. Neon signs, overly illuminated, cartoonish font and characters included, will also lead to skepticism. So much investment in a sign, leads me to believe there's a lack of investment in the food, service and/or, interior.

I won't eat sushi at any place that isn't primarily a Japanese sushi restaurant, so if the name indicates it specializes in some other kind of food, we won't go there. We have several in this area that are combinations such as "Charm Thai Kitchen & Sushi Bar" and "Sushi 9 Thai & Japanese Restaurant." There are a few Chinese/sushi combos. There's even one that serves Mexican food and sushi. The only other place I could think of where the name influenced our decision was in Honolulu. There was a little kiosk called "OK Hot Dog." Just "OK"? No thank you.

The Horny Toad in Cave Creek, AZ. I was there as a teenager years ago, but for some reason now I do not feel like eating/drinking at a place with horny amphibians (maybe it's just me). The Satisfied Frog is just down the road.

Not really, unless it is something like "Dave's Liver Shack."

Yes. Dickies BBQ, the name relives horror stories of terrible excuse for BBQ when we first arrived to Texas.
Never again.

Never passed on a restaurant but some of those would give me pause.

I had the pleasure of being a friend of Doug Dillard, the great Bluegrass banjo player. He stayed at my house a few times when he was working in the area.
At one time he owned a restaurant that served down-home dishes emphasizing various types of beans, black-eyed peas, etc. The restaurant's name was "The Windbreaker."

My long string of (usually) enjoying such places with disappointment now & then, was severely disrupted by an outfit on the outskirts of Albuquerque, giant signs proclaiming to the night : "Truck Stop & All you can eat Chinese Buffet"
While my son picked this after a too-long-drive from Flagstaff, be warned on whatever level it takes.

the only thing that affects my decision to try a restaurant nowadays is their ability, or more like my ability to avoid omega 6 seed oils, sugar, wheat / gluten, etc., and availability of clean 15 fruits and vegetables. right now the local buffet is the only one - i mean, unlimited bacon during breakfast? fuhgeddaboudit.
