Nice investment...

I love seeing these stories on the road show...

I wonder what he will do with it now...
Cool

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

If it were me I would sell it and enjoy the rest of my life with the proceeds.

Why is it that every single watch that I like more than than my $200 Seiko costs a lot of money? I really like that watch. Good for him that he kept all the paperwork and such.

Let's see when/if he puts it up for auction.

Auction fees would suck. Selling it for a quick $500k on The Rolex Forums (plus lawyer fees, billed to the buyer) would net a bigger return.

Pretty interesting to hear of the Oyster Cosmograph, its rarity, and provenance.

I wonder if collectors are contacting him?

I saw this story the other day in The Gallery. It was posted in the watch thread.

I too saw this earlier. Great stuff! Big Grin

But what really torques me are all the obviously jealous idiots who are impugning the vet's fainting as staged or otherwise phony with their interweb comments. A pox on their houses!

I suggest that he fully deserves this. A nice guy, cleared mines for the military, very down to earth.

As you say, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving fella. I'm really happy for him.

In my mind the story behind it adds value. Good for him. I would call that a museum piece. Like the guy said a one of a kind or very close to it.
