The below is copied from a closed Facebook group of the 105 MP CO. SSG Craig Lehner was my squad leader for my last year in the guard. He was a good Soldier, NCO, and person. He will be missed.

"Always a fighter, always quietly setting the example for younger soldiers to follow, always a leader to look up to, someone to depend on to keep his cool when situations became stressful. Thankful I got to know SSG Craig Lehner, EOW 10/13/17. Rest easy brother, we've got it from here. My thoughts are with the Buffalo Police Department, his K-9 partner Shield and the rest of my 105th Military Police Company family."

SgtGold, sorry to hear this. Do you know if his body has been recovered? I read that the search had been suspended until daylight.

Craig's body has been recovered.

Craig was a City of Buffalo police officer and excelled in that role as both a K9 handler\trainer, and a rescue diver. He was also a SSG in the 105 MP CO, NYARNG. I was privileged to work for him during my last year in the NYARNG. A combat vet of multiple tours, SSG Lehner was a consummate professional and the type of Soldier and leader that troops of all ranks could admire and hopefully emulate. He lost his life last Friday during a water rescue training exercise in Buffalo NY. 10-7 Craig, you will be missed.

RIP Officer Lehner. Condolences and prayers to his family and fellow Officers.
It takes a special bred of Officer to be part of a dive team. Rescue and recovery work in the cold, dark waters is not for the faint of heart or weak of mind.
