Hot honey has quickly become a must-have condiment in my kitchen. I use it on everything from chicken nuggets and pizza to cheese and meat with crackers. The way it balances sweetness with a subtle, yet satisfying heat adds an undeniable depth to food that is hard to describe beyond just "awesome."

My first experience with hot honey was great. It was drizzled over a pizza at a local pizzeria, (Gerardo’s in Sedona) and it completely changed the way I looked at pizza. The combination of the sweet, spicy honey with the savory pizza brought the dish to life in a way I hadn't anticipated. That hot honey was Mike’s, and I knew I had to explore more.

When I went on the hunt, I found Nate’s Hot Honey at Fry’s. Infused with habanero, Nate’s has a rich, well-rounded chile flavor. The habanero brings more than just heat. It offers a complexity that lingers on your palate, with a mild spice that sneaks up and stays with you just long enough. The honey itself is sweet and mellow, perfectly balanced by the depth of the habanero’s fruity heat. Every drizzle feels like a layering of flavors that complements whatever dish I’m eating.

Then I tried Mike’s Hot Honey again, this time from Safeway. It’s also delicious, but it’s a bit more straightforward in comparison. Mike’s is made with "chile peppers" and has a spicier kick than Nate’s, but it doesn’t offer the same complexity of flavor. It’s more of a pure heat experience. Spicy honey with less of the nuanced chile flavor you get from Nate’s. While Mike’s has great marketing, it doesn’t quite have the depth or long-lasting flavor that makes Nate’s stand out.

Mike’s is good, but Nate’s is fantastic. Nate’s wins with its superior blend of heat and flavor. It transforms the simplest of meals into something extraordinary.

All in all, you can’t go wrong with either of them, but if you have to pick one, I’d suggest Nate’s.

Have you tried Hot Honey? Do you like it? What are your thoughts on Hot Honey?

I've made it with just plain Jane red pepper flakes and it was quite good. I'd be interested in trying a long (month) duration infusion with habaneros. I would guess that it'd need to be refrigerated to keep it from fermenting during the process.

Sounds good will have to check it out, as an addition, try Kinders Honey Hot BBQ sauce.

Has plenty of heat and a bit of the honey sweetness, had it on chicken last night.

I haven't seen Nates but I do enjoy Mike's.

In fact I just finished eating some Utz Brand, Mike's Hot Honey potato chips. I'm not even a chips guy but these things are great.

Also my absolute favorite thing to put hot honey on is Sweet Potato Fries.

I like it. Great on warm corn bread.

I like this brand, and their BBQ sauce is also excellent. If you don't want it "extra hot" they also have just "hot".

Sorry Noah but I too am adverse to adding hot ingredients to all sorts of stuff to include honey.

I plan to make some. Fermenting chiles, garlic etc in honey sounds interesting.

And that’s what I thought, until I tried it. For quite a while I thought it sounded gross. Then I tried it.

I was just introduced to hot honey. Was at the interstate fair in Pensacola last week and the local beekeepers club had quite a display in one of the pavilions. They were giving samples of hot honey. Quite the kick at the back of the mouth at the end of the bite. Trying to figure out what I’d put it on. Wouldn’t really want it on meat. I’d sooner use spicy bbq sauce. Maybe some tea.
