Yes, 17 year olds all over the country embrace this term, I suppose. As for the adults here, it means nothing.

All you have to do is look around online today and you can see that many, many people- intelligent people- are taking his remarks as being serious.

Hello? Roll Eyes Any breakdown in communication rests entirely with this baseball yutz.

You can add "explaining current juvenile lingo" to this trainwreck. Just as with jokes, if you aren't connecting with the silly slang such as "hot take" (good grief Roll Eyes) then, you have failed.

Otherwise, please explain to me the reaction of a substantial percentage of the people who have heard this guy's remarks.

The entire thing is- at best- remarkably clumsy. He should be embarrassed, and he has certainly damaged his reputation to an extent. That's the truth. But, oh, it's not his fault; it's the clueless dolts who don't get the "joke". Yeah

But hey, let's take this opportunity to catch up on the latest of the silly-ass lingo from the only smart people in our society- teenagers and early twenty-somethings.

Their reaction is because they missed the joke. Simple as that. They saw or heard remarks from a niche social media and didn’t know the whole context. It is not a rare occurrence and it’s not a new phenomenon. Parents didn’t understand 20 something’s in the 60’s when they were saying cool or heavy or hip or far out.

I’m a big baseball fan and follow a number of pro baseball accounts. This was brought up on all of them and pretty much everybody got that he was joking. Strider is known for giving good interviews and talking a lot.

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Nope, I'm not buying it. There are too many people with the same reaction. You're not going to put this on them. All this juvenile "hot take" horse shit, like that's supposed to mean something, when, in fact, this guy took a giant shit on the fans. Oh, yes, his humor is so very sophisticated that it just went right over the heads of all the yokels, including yours truly. Sorry, but no.

I know funny. Funny is a friend of mine, and this guy is not funny. I don't care who comes in here with "I can't believe..." and "LOL" and the rest of it. This was no joke, not even even if he intended it as such, which I do not believe.

When a "joke" falls flat with a couple of people, it's on them, but when it falls flat with so many people, it's on the "comedian" and as a comedian, this guy makes for a good baseball player.

He needs to shut his silly yap and do what he's paid very well to do. Dan Rather is funnier than this guy.

The truth of the matter is staring you in the face, yet you do not see it:

Once I saw the video I was sure he was joking. I don’t watch Curb your enthusiasm and haven’t heard of a “modern hot take…?” But seeing the video I still knew he was joking. All the other context just makes me more certain of it.

He wasn’t pulled half way through, he went 7 strong innings and apparently wanted to go more.

I have no sympathy but once again, we start sounding like we don’t know what we’re talking about and folks will think we don’t know what we’re talking about.

Stop it, 7 innings and 2 ER is strong, stop with this argument.

“ A starting pitcher records a quality start when he pitches at least six innings and allows three earned runs or fewer. “

It’s literally by definition.

Goodness.

give him his wish,

every game, no one in the lower stands, just upper decks etc,
and deduct the full cost of admin for those seats, as in total ticket price etc, from his salary,

see how much he likes it then

Not to mention that by the time the pitcher is headed through the opponents batting order for the third time, the hitters often have figured things out. Managers look for this, as well as changes in velocity, and delivery/'finish'. Frankly, this is the whole reason for the relief pitcher! Unless the pitcher is dominating the opponents hitters, a pitching change is not uncommon in this situation.

A change in pitchers changes a lot of things; velocity, delivery, arm slot, release point, etc. As a manager the decision is either intended to maintain a lead, or limit potential damage. Pitch count can also be an element influencing the decision...As this is a 'series', sometime it's better to limit the pitch count and bring him back another day. The more time a hitter sees a particular pitcher, the easier it is for them the hit off of them. Regardless it's just another element of the game.

I agree. People don’t like him now so anything he does is going to be wrong. Sounds more like lefties. I want a competitive pitcher who wants to stay in the game because he’s confident in his stuff.

Bob Gibson, one of the best pitchers of all time, was famous for going off on the manager when they wanted to yank him. One manager even talked about going out to pull him from the game and Bob said “look me in the eye and tell me the guy in the bullpen is better than me”. The manager turned around and went back to the dugout.

I don't watch baseball anymore as of several years ago. Might watch the Red Sox if they ever get in the playoffs again though. I'm told by a good friend in Atlanta that he has a very dry sense of humor, and that he was probably joking. I don't really care, most pro athletes are drastically overpaid and over-coddled.....

Strider pitched a good game, usually Braves overcome 3 runs. No place is as loud as the bank but he took the razzing and pitched well. I like that he's a fast worker. How bout Castellanos and Turner - they both came to play. D-Backs are hot, gonna be a good match up. Go Phillies!
