Really? The Stars and Stripes has earned the symbolism and respect we 'should' be affording it, as up until recently, its stood for freedom and an ideal most people of the world envy and unite behind. That rainbow cloth they want to fly means virtually nothing in the overall scheme of things. The confederate flag means something to a group of Americans, so should we entertain flying it over embassies?

Only one flag represents this country and its ideals, and only that flag should fly over US embassies and government buildings.

It is indeed, that's one of those nautical flag poles. I suspect the photo was taken by someone with an agenda.

An agenda? Like the people trying to fly the gay pride flag??

No, it's one thing to fly a flag, it's another to fly it higher than the stars and stripes.

They are flying the pride flag against orders because they know there will not be any repercussions.

Wouldn’t bet on that.
How many people has Trump fired?

I have a feeling that there might be a few Ambassadors in the unemployment line sooner than they expected.

They are politically appointed and confirmed by Senate, but the final say lands with POTUS.

The flag flown over our diplomatic embassies should be the American flag, because it is an American embassy.... duh!

The American embassy should not be flying sexual orientation flags - straight, gay or otherwise.

Micky Mouse club flags, auto club flags, golf course flags, or any other than official American flags or POW flags should not be flown.

If embassy personnel want to advertise their sexual orientation they should do it at home or in a legitimate public assembly.

Some heads should roll over this. Mad

Some of us are getting very tired of having this shoved down our throats........ .

It is, from start to finish.

What has actually happened? Previously, the decision to fly the rainbow flag on an embassy's official flagpole (under the Stars and Stripes, as I understand it, not above or even instead) was left to the respective ambassador. It has now reverted to the top of the State Department, which so far hasn't granted any request to do so.

So there wasn't any "ban" on the rainbow flag, least of all "by the White House" as some media have claimed (including the "Daily Mail" which was quoted in the OP of this thread).

What has further happened? Some embassies still displayed the rainbow flag, but as far as I've seen, not on their official flag pole, in any combination with the Stars and Stripes. Rather, they hung it elsewhere, had it projected onto their facade, or similar. Which incidentally they have done before (there are ample pictures accompanying media coverage of a Republican bill aimed at banning US embassies to do this from last year). In fact in typical "Daily Mail" fashion, after the misleading headline even the article in the OP states this would remain allowed.

So embassies doing it are not "defying" or "circumventing" the "ban". Rainbow-colored tempest in a teapot all around.

Incidentally, I never noticed the rainbow flag on the local embassy at all, though probably because I never paid attention. I had to look at their website to find they have been participating in the Berlin CSD parade for the last seven years.

I agree, I used to think more people agree with the LBGT agenda due to outward appearances. Then I see their gay pride agenda plastered on LinkedIn and the majority of people that comment don’t like it. I do realize they have brainwashed the younger generations into accepting it but I still think the majority doesn’t. I have LBGT relatives and I don’t think they should be treated differently for their choices but I sure don’t think they need special treatment for them either. Only the American flag should be flown at our embassies, no other agenda needs to be pushed up the flagpole.
