Thoughts on Amazon Echo?

Revolution37Thoughts on Amazon Echo?
Anyone have the full-size Amazon Echo or the Echo Dot? Prime Day has them for $90 and $35 instead of $180 and $50, respectively. The full size Echo seems like a kinda cool idea.
Anyone have one of the devices and can offer some insight?

comet24Better watch out big brother will be watching.....
I like mine although it's kinda a novelty. I use it mostly to play music and give me the weather. It's nice to just tell it to play a certain music style, artist or even song. Just speak and it works.

LBTRSI have both and they are great. The speaker isn't he best on the full size one so I like the Dot better and connect a nicer bluetooth speaker to it.
I have four of them with another on the way for my office.

Revolution37Yeah, I've resigned myself to the fact that Big Brother is going to find out whatever he wants to know about me no matter what, so I don't really mind the speaker.
I considered getting the Dot and then a Bluetooth speaker, but the combined price is about as much as the Echo, so I wasn't sure it was worth it.

CopefreeMy wife got me the full size one and we keep it in the kitchen. Mainly use it to play music. Bun it comes in handy lots of other ways. It's nice!
Also have an Echo Dot in the basement but I rarely use it.

eldeWas gifted with an Echo. It went back to Amazon immediately without opening the box. I don't care to assist Big Brother nor perhaps expedite the inevitable.
As usual, Para hit it right on the head.

Ronin1069 I remember a rather lengthy thread on the topic, found it. The thread has been locked, but pages of good discussion:https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...810044614#1810044614

H&K-GuyJust because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
I wouldn't trust having one anywhere near me. Although all people would learn about me from hacking it is when I order tooth-paste and pizza and stuff.

mcrimmI have one of each. I use the Dot in my detached garage to play music to a set of outdoor speakers in my gazebo.
The Echo is indoors for music and general foolishness. I like them both.

Making a phone call is not a supported feature on Amazon Echo, so says Amazon, and tech blogs reviewing the device.

RAMIUSWe got one for my dad for Father's Day.
He's really into the stock market, but since retiring, he doesn't use a computer and doesn't want a smartphone.
I finally got around to setting it up for him last week. I had fun messing with it for a day, it's really entertaining.
It is a cool novelty though, my brother in law set his up to control the lights in his house, temp, music, etc...

spy on others in your home, or even spy on yourselfOf course, this audio, in conjunction with a vast collection of selfies, will provide an extensive record of you for future generations. Heck, your grandchildren or great grandchidren may be able to access archived audio of the procreation of one of their own parents! Far out.

Echo has no support to make phone calls. It is not possible. I'm guessing she called 911 on her phone, he took the phone and tossed it, thinking he had broken it, and hadn't.
