When I get home I want to pick up a decent pvs-14. Do I go used to save money or new to get Max warranty?
I'd like WP but for my uses I think it's wasted money. This will likely be a toy that fills a spot in a theoretical SHTF scenario that is likely to never happen. Is WP likely to decrease in price in the next few years? Is it worth the additional cost over green?
I'd like to stay around 3k or lower for the unit alone.
What do I look for used? This message has been edited. Last edited by: OttoSig,

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause of the leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

If you have the $$$, go for a new one. Buying used, probably previously abused.
If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

Even with the depth and breadth of knowledge on this board, there probably aren't 5 people who know what all this alphabet soup means.

That's SOP for DOAs from the FAA.

Someone has been watching Nutnfancy videos again.
But seriously, my rule of thumb (RoT) is to spell out the abbreviation followed by the abbreviation (abbrv) in parentheses. Then use the abbrv from then on. It can really help.
Concerning the OP’s question….I am zero help as I don’t fully understand the equipment in question. Even if I decoded the abbrv’s and acronyms correctly.

My RoT is if you don't know what the acronym means then you're probably not knowledgeable enough to post a meaningful reply.
Funny how that should weed out the BS in theory but in practice its a whole different story.
I'm not looking for inclusion, I'm looking for first hand experience.

I like that you're keeping with the theme.
Haven't decided yet...most of what I read says the mwal is the best civilian laser available.
I'd rather have a good laser and take whatever illuminator comes with it. Illuminator quality is definitely a huge second to a good laser.
While the perst2 may be overkill, it on the list as well.
This is however speaking from extremely limited experience so I appreciate any first hand advice.

A good third gen filmed galium arsenide tube won't need an illuminator.
I got tired of changing batteries, adjusting illuminator focus and blind areas that I finally got thermal.
However if you're gonna Buffalo Bill through the house in hopes there's no flashlights, it'll do just fine.
If it's for a rifle to intensify low light, thermal is king.
Thermal has its own drawbacks like ambient objects are almost invisible and it wont see through windows.
However, nothing can hide in shadows.
Now go and be less rude, you yourself admit you have very little experience. Your post was very cryptic and you could have just explained it.

I’m with the C.I.D., although I told your boss I’m with the C.I.A. It throws people off who think I’m with the C.I.C.

If the OP wasn’t edited it seems clear to anyone who knows anything about night vision.
Anyway Id go new just to know Im starting with zero hours on the tube and a warranty. I’ve never looked through a WP tube, just lots of military PVS14 use, that would be a hard decision for me as well. I’d probably in a perfect world go to one of their NV courses 1st, get some great training and exposure to both types as well different mounting and laser options then buy with confidence after that.

My IDF friend says the enemy uses cell phones and old handi-cams with nite shot to detect ir emitters on NV.
He REALLY likes my thermal setups.

Very good suggestion. I'll look into that when I get back to the States...should be plenty of courses around the DC area.
