No.
You don't 'punish' somebody by making them enlisted. It is a pivilege to serve in any rank.
You punish somebody by jailing and/or booting them out.
The cadets who did drugs are not worthy to wear ANY uniform (except prison orange).
I was proud to have been an enlisted man for almost seventeen years, and then just as proud to have been an officer for the following sixteen.
As I pointed out to a snotty captain one afternoon, I had been promoted seven times before I got commissioned, the last time to Warrant Officer 1st Class, a rank that in a Regimental setting, has only the commanding officer to look up to.
As a captain he had only been promoted three times, and the first to second was automatic.

I wholeheartedly agree. I served 15 years as a USAF officer (10 1/2 as a Captain) and was separated for failure of promotion. I enlisted E-4 to serve another 5 years to qualify for retirement (as a Captain) and was glad to have the opportunity to do so. My enlisted time was some of the best service I did and I was proud to do it.

drill sgtNot if but when they are convicted for the drug use and the conduct unbecoming of a officer at the least be discharged with atleast a less than honorable for the two two cadets that tried to help and the other 4 cadets get a dishonorable discharge unless they were more involved then all of them get the big boot with a dishonorable discharge...... Just because they were on spring break and not on the academy grounds does not excuse their actions if anything it heightens their responsibilty to represent the service academy as well as themselves personally............... drill sgt.

FredwardIf they took the drugs, punish them. If they accidentally OD'd giving CPR, give them a medal. I'm not going to judge this one quickly.

I don't disagree with you about the ones who did CPR, no need for hasty judgement.
Those who took the cocaine though, if the proof is there (and it probably is), they took our tax dollars to pay for outstanding education putting them on the road to positions of leadership and knowingly threw all of that away.
If found guilty by due process, no punches should be pulled for penalty. Hard time (maximum) if applicable, dishonorable discharge, etc.

BBMWLikely won't be criminally charged. Will likely get kicked out and face a demand for repayment of the education cost $2-300,000. I found previous cases where this was the result of a cadet being busted for drug use.
