Yesterday an old friend of mine posted on Facebook about how a local media news station used stock footage from her at an event from several years ago as part of a piece they did on the current event. She is no longer with the company that she was with during the original event, but since she was wearing their logo apparel and the video had her name with the old company name under it, there were some issues. She received calls from friends co-workers, her manager etc. Needless to say she was less than happy about the situation. No real harm, most found it pathetic and funny media garbage but she was still irked over it.

I posted the following in response in support of her plight in my typical manner:
quote:
What? The media would cut corners and use unrelated footage to make a better piece??? I'm stunned... Shocked I say Roll Eyes

An individual took issue with my broad brush of the media and responded:
quote:
Please don't lump all "media" together in your mindless criticism. Those of us who work hard to do it right are really put off by your pettiness.

Initially I was going to let it go, but after a day of thinking about more important things like how many rolls of toilet paper I still have and why I squeezed the toothpaste tube in the middle I decided that I'm tired of this type of response and no one saying anything back. So I decided to bait him a little and see what happened with the following, yes I left Trump Supporters/MAGA out because that might be too much for him:
quote:
Fair is fair, when the media stops lumping conservatives, the NRA, Gun owners, and LEO together when something happens to make a more controversial story, I'll stop. I can spend hours citing examples from personal history it's not petty, it's experience.

The experience I referred to was related to several people who I know or worked with who had their careers ended or jeopardized by this same station making up quotes and attaching names to them, or aggressively pursuing an individual without all of the facts, then terminating the reporter when he learned the truth and tried to correct it. Not to mention completely twisted facts in multiple stories where I have direct knowledge of the true facts.

It turns out he's a personality on a small radio station or somehow connected with the station.
As expected he couldn't help but go off the reservation:
quote:
Baloney. Selfish, self-centered, petty, first grade, "poor me," "blame my troubles on someone else" baloney. I know it's comfortable to have a bogeyman. It's so much easier to blame your troubles on someone else than actually address them. Hitler had the Jews, ISIS had the Americans, McCarthy had the Communists, and you've chosen us. Morally, you're on the same level they were. Grow up. Take responsibility. If you don't like the way you look in the mirror, it's not the mirror's fault.

In this case, no further response from me is required, he pretty much proved every concept about how the media reacts when challenged. Adjectives fail me for how sorry I am for daring to challenge the media when the blatantly screwed up and caused someone innocent harm..... or not Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I’d point out the fact that they are comparing you to Hitler & ISIS.

Fuck all the media.

The sad part is the Journalist probably doesn’t realize that his response just proved your point.

"Thank you for making my point." would be a good response.

Weaksauce. Why is this always their response. Don't agree with me you are a Nazi or similar. Just put a little, tiny, miniscule amount of effort in your retort please. State one fact, or name one study, or just try at least. When Hitler is your go to, then you know your don't have a leg to stand on.

Don’t let that one go, laugh at him and say see, you just proved my point with your response. Yet you still can’t see it.

I don't want him to see it... it's good enough for me that everyone else sees it.

This, with a request to post and let everyone know when he/she/it/person identifier of the week figures it out. If they cannot figure it out, they've made an additional point obvious.

This. Keep working this nitwit until he finally resorts to threats of bodily harm...and he will eventually go there. I love winding these morons up until they burst with insanity. Smile

I would definitely have to respond back. I would say something like this. "Sorry for taking so long to respond, I just now stopped laughing and can finally type again. Thank you for making my point."

Not only do you chum the waters by laughing at him, but you get to twist the knife a bit with pointing out his asshatery. Wink

I appreciate all of the comments. Some I had considered, some made me go mmmMMmmmm Razz Big Grin

I've elected not to respond further for a few reasons:

1. I don't want a thread a friend started about a media issue to turn into a battle ground due to one idiot

2. There are limited respondents so its not going to gather a large audience

3. I don't know any of the respondents but no one else has stepped in on either side so I'm content to assume everyone else already gets it and nothing more needs to be said. Although he did respond in a slightly different way to someone else and got slapped around a little too.
