During the corona virus/covid-19 crisis, some counties/states have compiled a list of what is considered essential service such as a grocery store or fast food restaurant with take out and medical marijuana, because of this stressful time you may need your medicine. However what is not essential is your local gun store. Is it a 2A issue and essential service? https://youtu.be/vdkq8OvqfkA

The state of IL just classified guns and ammo as essential. Oddly - they also classified video & electronics and paint as essentials as well. (this off the NSSF website)

Most likely not going anywhere but the National Shooting Sports Foundation is trying. NSSF Requests Firearm & Ammo Businesses Listed ‘Critical’ NSSF sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security to implore officials to consider the firearm and ammunition industry to be listed as a “National Critical Infrastructure Industry” and industry employees be clearly identified and listed as “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers.” This designation would possibly helpexempt those businesses from mandatory shutdowns. NSSF pointed out the industry provides the U.S. military and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with the tools needed to carry out vital national security and public safety missions. Many local law enforcement agencies rely on community retailers and ranges for supplies and training. NSSF believes these services are critical for ensuring public safety and readiness during times of uncertainty.

I work for U-Haul, we are considered an essential service. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Yidn, shreibt un fershreibt" "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind." -Bomber Harris

Well, if the activity at the LGS' and the on-line ammo sellers is any guide: Somebody thinks guns and ammo are critical "America is at that awkward stage. Now MANY places will be closed. Those that are still open have reduced hours. So what do you think that's going to do to the places that are still open? Instead of cutting store hours, they should be increasing them. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Establishments need more time to restock shelves, sanitize and receive inbound shipments.

Video/electronics stores are necessary to facilitate telecommuting, since lots of businesses are still trying to get their employees set up to work from home, and there are lots of kids still getting set up to do school from home. I'm not sure why paint specifically is classified as essential, although it may just be a byproduct of hardware stores in general being considered essential.

Companies engaged in, or that support supply chain are considered essential. Ass are those in or that support food, beverage, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, emergency services, etc. Pronoun: His Royal Highness and benevolent Majesty of all he surveys 343 - Never Forget Its better to be Pavlov's dog than Schrodinger's cat There are three types of mistakes; Those you learn from, those you suffer from, and those you don't survive.

What about private outdoor ranges? I went to the NSSF page but could not find anything about IL. I live in IA but belong to a private club across the river in IL. I'm hesitant to go there once the "shelter in plac" begins tonight.

My wife and her rabidly liberal sister who lives in Ann Arbor were talking on the phone about the beach goers. I said just shoot a couple of them and the rest will fall in line. Anti-gun sister in law thought it might not be a bad idea. Figures.

I know a couple of grocery store chains in Texas cut their open hours about a week ago, completely on their own initiative, in order to give themselves more time to restock shelves. E.g., HEB went from 6AM-midnight to 8AM-8PM. https://www.bizjournals.com/ho...ly-cut-hours-to.html

My gun club is an incorporated not for profit. We have no employees, and no state business or other licenses. As far as we can tell we are not under the order to close because we are a voluntary social organization., not a legitimate business. _____________________________ 'I'm pretty fly for a white guy'.

Home Depot here is closing at 6PM. They're not selling so much stuff they need an extra four hours to restock the shelves. lol NY announced the closure of all non eseential businesses. (I'd still like like to see the legal end of that) They put out a long list of "essential businesses", I think it would have been easier to list the places that are closed. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

As of Friday my place wasn't "essential" and I would be "on vacation". As of my inbox this morning we're "essential" because we're in the supply chain to the medical field. I just finished calling all my people to tell them to be at work tomorrow. I want folks to get paid but I was kinda looking forward to a week or two off.
