Greetings all. I have a son who has outgrown his bed and now sleeps with a crooked neck, or feet hanging over his mattress. Time to get a new bed.

Unfortunately, I can’t find a bed frame of bed of extended size (Amazon is no help). So, you taller folks, where’d you get your sleeping items? My son is 6-3” or so.

I'm 6'3 and have been since 8th grade. I usually get the frame from wherever I buy the mattress. To have enough length for his height you'll need a Queen or King bed, as a full and standard twin aren't long enough. I think a twin XL is long enough, but they're tough to find and almost as pricey as a queen set sometimes. I like Serta beds. I have had a Serta Icomfort hybrid for a few years and it's great.

If queen size is too big, the next best is long twin which is the same length as queen. I've used a standard twin frame with long twin mattress and haven't had a problem.
For mattresses, check out Sleep Essentials in your neck of the woods.

This is what I had growing up. It's essentially a half width, California king sized mattress. Back in the day sheets were not that easily found but on a whim searched Amazon a while back. They are readily available.

I bought my twin XL mattress (Sealy) at Macy's. It uses a standard twin bed frame.

Last year we bought a split king with adjustable frames. They are separate beds in king length. That ought to meet his needs. We are also sold on latex mattresses.

At 6’3” your son should do fine on a King. At 6’5” I prefer the extra length of a California King. Bedding and frames for either are readily available.

Don’t know how handy you are - I got tired of paying for boxsprings that amounted to nothing more than a spacer under the mattress.

Built my own from plywood and structural lumber (2x6). Glued and screwed what amounts to a nice, extremely stiff, solid sided pallet. Then build wooden boxes to screw to the pallet.

Will never buy a box spring again.

The Original Mattress Factory made our mattresses to our measurements.

Excellent quality, very reasonable prices.

The sales people are on straight salary, not on commission, so they have no incentive to try to upsell you; they know what they are talking about, and give you straight facts.

Not sure why you didn't find something on Amazon. Try search: "Twin xl frame. Lots of options.

Twin xl is same length as queen.

How wide did you want the bed to be? Making your own and cutting down the width of a queen 15" foam mattress is something we've done before as well.

Easy to cut a straight line with a straight edge to mark a line and, then, use an inexpensive electric knife to cut along the line.

Sheets can also made to order if you decide to make an odd size.

Without room size limits a California king is the way to go. I’m 6’4” and even a king kinda cramps your feet with the way sheets are tucked at the bottom. A California king is longer than a king but narrower in width. The width is between a queen and a king which is better in most room sizes.

King beds are typically 76”W by 80”L. I don’t know why your feet hang over.
Confused
An 80” long bed should be plenty long for OP’s 6’3” son.

Thanks all.
