One of the recent posts about friends and growing up made me think about shows we watched and talked about. The Gong Show was one of my all time favorites for some reason. I loved Chuck Barris, and when Gene Gene the Dancing Machine made an appearance, that was the icing on the cake...we'd do our best to imitate him and Barris.

The way Chuck slides up and back on the floor so fast...often imitated, never duplicated!

No question, ole Chuck had access to some really good recreational drugs. Smile

What a fun time that was.

vthoky...my mom wasn’t a big fan either, but my dad let it slide. Of course, he and I loved Hee Haw too...for the music, of course.

braillediver...The Unknown Comic...another classic!

I was a band nerd (self proclaimed, played trombone). 5 or 6 of us formed a small voluntary pep band for our high school basketball games. At least once per game, during a time out, we would play the Gene Gene song, and dance our brains out. Lots of our classmates would join in. And lots of them would stare at us like the goobers that we were! Those were the days.

Lol, I loved the Gong Show as a kid. I remember copying these moves with my brothers. Simple, fun times worth reliving.

Thanks for posting this!

Anybody remember the band member on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson who did a crazy dance to act out unrelated themes? I tried to search it and can't find anything.

Yep, that was the most bizarre part of Chuck's story.

That was a crazy claim. After his book was released, he apparently fessed up that the claim was untrue, and was more of his “imagining” what his life would’ve been like, had he been a CIA assassin. Apparently, the CIA called him out after the book release.

pbslinger...I cant think of who that would be either, on Carson. You’re not, by chance, thinking of The Gaseous Weiner from Conan O’Brien, are you?
