Milwaukee 18V impact wrench on clearance at Home Depot

EdmondMilwaukee 18V impact wrench on clearance at Home Depot
This one:
It's on clearance at my local Home Depot from $220 to $198. This is the brushless version. I didn't get it as I wanted to come home and think it over. I don't really "need" it so I wanted to sit on it for a day. They have about 7 of them left. Tool only, no battery or charger included.
This is the Oviedo, FL Home Depot.
I already use the M18 Fuel system so I have the batteries and chargers. That's why this would make sense for me.
Should I just go get it?

I passed on their table miter saw a few months ago that was on clearance for $350 but they only had 2 of those at the time. Decided to go back the next day and get it but they were both gone by that time.

kx90Do you need that much nut-busting torque?
If you think you may need it at some point and you have the money, then the question should be: Why not?

FiveFiveSixFanCoincidentally, I've been looking at those over the past week or so. If you don't mind a refurb unit, here's a
link to one which will save you a few dollars.
If you don't need quite that much power, here's a
corded version which, although not nearly as powerful as the cordless one above, is very affordable.

AeteoclesThat's not much of a sale. I'd pass unless I had an immediately foreseeable use.

I do not need that much nut busting torque. But like you said, why not?

It's clearance which leads me to believe if they don't sell them the price will drop further until they are all sold. While not much of a drop in price, 10%, it's still $20 that I could waste on other stuff.

smschulzIF you NEED it > get it.
It is a good tool.
Otherwise the discount isn't enough for me to buy on impulse ~ IF it was 50 per cent off then that is another story.

If it were 50% off I'd buy two. One for myself and another for Karma.

old rugged crossIt has been a while ago. But I bought a made in the USA DeWalt unit. They had a promotion and I was able to get their battery operated skill saw for nothing. I think the original driver was like $129 with two lithium batteries

That was a heck of a deal. This one. Not so much.

If it's not something you need, then it's $198 you could waste on other stuff. Plus tax.

sns3guppyI don't use impact wrenches. If it's not coming lose, there's a reason. Lubrication, heat, slow increase in leverage and torque may be needed, but seldom is hammering something on or off the right choice. If it's been overtorqued, then it's got bolt or shaft stretch, and hammering it off isn't the right answer.
Impact wrenches are popular, they're time saving devices and the easy way out...but very, very seldom the right tool.

You don't say.

Large, tight and/or rusted bolts are what you use power tools
for. Good luck lubricating or heating a Honda crankshaft bolt.

hbablerAs far as that tool goes it's pretty awesome and not really comparable to anything dewalt or any other major manufacturer currently makes. That price is okay but not a steal. It's important while comparing prices to note that this is the brushless. The reason it's on clearence is that the new version will be shipped soon and it's even more of a monster then this one.

AeteoclesYou can basically get 10% off at Home Depot whenever you like. Lowe's as well. They have 10% off your entire purchase coupons inside of the packet that the USPS gives you when you go for a change of address.
10% isn't that much of an incentive to buy a $220 product that you don't really need.

snwghstMeans a new model coming in
Personally I’d wait for the Rigids to go on sale. It’s approaching fast as “Hardware season” for Depot is around The holidays

cparktdIt's big, it's heavy, it's cool, and it will add at least 50 points of credit to your man card... 75 if hung on a pegboard in your garage in plain sight for your neighbors and buddies to see. You will however need to decide if you will loan it out or not.
I have one and love it. Wish I had one years ago when I was more active with heavy projects, construction, farm machinery repair and such. I could have taken good advantage of it then.
Used mine to replace a muffler the other day. It is fantastic for when I rotate tires or change lawn mower blades etc. When removing the blades from my big ZTR I don't even have to hold the blades still... one short ZIP and it's off with zero effort.
On "low" I can even replace lug nuts with it. It is vary close to the perfect torque for my SUV and Jeep. (ALWAYS follow up with a torque wrench!)
Don't forget you need to add the cost of buying impact sockets to the overall cost. I got both metric and SAE sets as well as an extension set and a thin wall lug nut set for mine. Harbor Freight will be your friend, watch for sales.
The Depot is dropping it in stores for low sales volume not too many of their customers need one I bet.
Thats not a huge deal. Amazon has it for $213.93 & FREE Shipping.
But the reviews... 92% 5 stars.

sigcrazy7That tool is bad to the bone. It can bust loose the lug nuts on my semi truck.

Actually there are a lot of good uses where the impact jolt is exactly what you need to break something free......for example a bolt put in with Loctite red. Crankshaft bolts, etc. Places where you don't have the room to get a breaker bar on there......
I use my 1/4" on yachts when I'm changing a bunch of big s/s hose clamps that are all corroded and shot....if the hose clamp doesn't come loose, the impact just busts the bolt part off and it comes off just as easy.....I run the new hose clamps down by hand..... but nothing beats an impact for taking 100 rusty/crusty hose clamps off.

Hamden106I tighten and loosen my nuts with one.
Now if I could get it to scratch too....
Don't recall if it's the Fuel or not model. Works great on lug nuts. But I still torque them after.
I have air tool too. But seldom use it since the battery one is around

What?!?!
It is exactly the right thing for such applications. Using a breaker bar applies rotational force as well as which ever way you are pushing/pulling bar. You have less chance of shearing a bolt with progressively stronger impact guns than if you put a breaker bar on something and jump on it.
I will agree if it doesn't come off like its supposed to, then use heat/lube before excess force.
