In light of Visa, Master Card and AmEx now placing firearms and ammunition in its own identifiable category I wonder if Cabela’s is going to respond on a corporate level to this.

I initiated a live chat and the official response was “I do sincerely apologize but at this time our company policy does not authorize us to speak on such topics so you will need to speak with our Corporate Communications team for further assistance. I do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

“Our Corporate Communications team can be reached at:
Phone 1-417-873-4567
Email press@basspro.com”

I’ll be calling them tomorrow morning as I feel they should have some sort of corporate response.

I have no illusions of accomplishing anything but I’m still going to call.

I don’t buy that much from them, I maybe go there twice a year but I use the card for a lot of things, the last month between eye exam and glasses, several co-pays at my Cardiologist and a couple dinners out it was about 1100 dollars.

Usually I use it for a couple hundred dollars a month and pay it off at statement but until I get some reimbursements I’ll be paying interest on it for a month or two.

Not certain what you expect them to do. Stop accepting Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.? That ain't gonna happen.

As for me: I'll be paying for more, a lot more, with cash, and I'll start carrying a checkbook again.

That was my thought as well. Will be cash for now on.

Point being that the rewards “free money” is what makes me drive over a hundred mile round trip to Dundee or Auburn Hills to shop there even though I can get most everything closer here or order it online.

When we go into the store I guarantee you I’ll spend more there than if I order something online, those pesky spur of the moment things.

Capital One customer service has been excellent so far, I have no complaints.

But another point, what item or service next is going to be tracked?

Sorry, but I think you're on a fool's errand. Bass Pro and virtually all large retailers aren't going to buck the CC companies on any of this. They couldn't exist without CC services, so we have zero leverage on them.

How about contacting your reps in Congress and demand the Repub's immediately pass a bill forbidding what is essentially the "profiling" of innocent Americans when they own majorities in the house and/or Senate in November. These morons are there for a reason. Make them stand up straight (like they actually had a backbone), and do the job we demand of them.

Because our Congressperson is Elissa Slotkin. There’s a capital “D” after her name. No different than contacting our Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow, both “D”.

I’ve emailed her office a couple times in the past. That was a waste of time.

I’ll call Cabela’s instead.

Except for on-line purchases that's pretty much what I've been doing the past few years. If the gov, banks, or whoever really wants, they can track which ATM I withdraw money from, but they'll have a much harder time finding out what I spend it on, and where.

I'm reading between the lines here, but I assume the OP is referring to a CC issued by Cabelas, not just using a random card to shop at their store. As I recall Cabelas had a pretty sizable customer base for that card. Some have speculated it was the main reason my Bass Pro bought them, to get that business. Not sure they can or will try to buck this decision by Visa.

I thought I read that Visa was displeased with the new category. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct!
It might say Cabelas on the card but the card is issued and owned by whatever bank Cabela's contracted that business to. Cabela's has zero control over how that card operates.

I've had a Cabela's card for somewhere north of 20 years and it's been the only card I use. I don't buy much at Cabela's these days and have been planning on switching to a Wells Fargo 2% cash back card. I don't carry a balance and Cabela's points are worth less than 2% back. Especially with Cabela's prices, even free with points I hate paying the price so I guess now is as good a time as ever to switch cards. Really not much to do with the new tracking crap just saying, if you use a Cabela's card you can probably do better.

Cabela's is "sporting goods" classified.

You will be tracked like always, you bought sporting goods.

It's FFLs that have gone from miscellaneous to gun related.

Excellent advice.
I think that will be my strategy too.
