I'm looking at a few properties in the area and would appriciate any local knowledge.

This would be for a retirement place so, please keep that in mind.

Best regards,

Tom

We live about 30 minutes north of Knoxville.

Check on the map - familiar with Lenoir City, Kingston, Loudon and that area which is not far from Tellico Plains.

I would be happy to help in any way possible - I will be offline til in the morning, but feel free to fire away with any questions or shoot me a message and I'll get back with you tomorrow.

God's country for sure, and a great place to retire to.

While I'm not "locally" familiar with the area, I love it. When I had a motorcycle I used to ride through at least a few times a year, and at least once every fall. I would love to live in that general area someday. It's quiet, peaceful, has great scenery, and great access to all kinds of outdoor activities.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I live a little north of there. All of E. TN is beautiful with lakes and mountains, 4 seasons, no income tax, decent gun laws, and the economy isn't bad either. TVA and DOE spend enough money in the area to keep things going even during bad times.

Lots of allergy problems is the only downside I can think of.

You won't have a Walmart unless you drive to Madisonville or Athens. It's really small town America in the South. The county seat is Madisonville. It is in the Blue Ridge Mountain chain. Lots of creeks, rivers, and forest. Depending upon where you move you won't exactly have decent internet but can get high-ish speed Internet through satellite. There are some decent exclusive (expensive) properties for those who want the gated type communities on water but also a lot of off the grid properties. If you need a good real estate agent let me know and I'll hook you up with ours. Trustworthy and good at what she does. Great gun laws and one of the best states for Knife laws. Shoot me emails if you have any questions. I worked for the State and did a little work there also.
