Maybe its just me getting older…but it feels like we are close to being at the end of music, television, and movies. Its all been done already… Plots are all worn out…remakes prevail…nothing holds any interest anymore. Everything is binge watched and people are becoming bored with content and always looking for the “next great show.” And few show up…the number of shows goes up but most, close to all, fail. So are we close to done? The same for music….all the melodies, chords, etc. are pretty worn out. Having been used over and over there are only so many variations of music. Most of it is tired remakes of the same genres. Words change but even they are growing tired from reuse. So are we done? And if we are, what’s next? Discuss…LOL. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! I've mostly replaced TV with YouTube. There's a ton of creative content. I enjoy learning and is a great place to do that. Watch the commercials, click on associate links or join the subscription services of those you like to keep them making videos.

With movies, I'm pretty much done, with rare exceptions every now and then. I have been to the movie theater once in the last few years, and only a couple of movies per year interest me enough to watch on disc or streaming. Didn't used to be like that; once upon a time, I used to go to a movie theater at a minimum half dozen times a year. With TV, I'll admit there is so much content out there, I really don't know what are the "hot" shows. The only series I have an interest is the next season of Fargo. Otherwise, occasional reruns, mostly westerns, and old movie channels such as TCM. As far as music, the new "rock" based stuff I have listened to is boring and derivative, same melodies, chord patterns, singing styles. I actually buy CDs 'cause I like 'em, and it is 99% older stuff. For example, I just replaced my Mott the Hoople Greatest Hits LP with CDs of the first three albums, and found a used copy of Frank Sinatra's Reprise boxset. With music, there is so much unheard content in multiple genres, I never get bored with older stuff. There is lots of great new music being made. I appreciate the fact that I was there for the evolution of rock music, and as the T-shirt says, saw many of the great bands, but...much of classic rock just sounds old to me. I see as much live music now as I did in my 20s, and I enjoy it thoroughly. Music is great today. It’s the radio stations that suck. You just have to find what you like. XM Sirius and the internet make it easier than ever. I’m a geezer who doesn’t listen to geezer music. The 70s may as well have been the dark ages of music IMO. As for TV, I’ve gone my whole adult life without it except for sports. That’s all changed with Amazon, Netflix, and the rest. Viewers have never had access to so many high quality productions on their TV screen - a screen vastly superior to our old tube sets. Snow days are binge days. Just because you’re getting old doesn’t mean you have to get grumpy and cantankerous

You may be right...it may just be an aging thing... But I have some younger friends who agree with me to a point... So I thought I'd ask the hive... _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! We haven't gone to the movies in years. We're too old for the next "super hero " movie. No creativity or originality left. Same goes for music. . Todays sucks and I've listened to the old stuff over and over. Kind of tired of it. Television....... comedy is just crap and everything else is lacking anything new. Or it's just late night "we hate Trump". We listen to talk radio quite abit . Guys like Rush , Belling and Hannity are pretty entertaining and I believe , honest.

I'm not nearly done with movies. Apart from 'Little Women,' which I have no interest in, the other 8 Best Picture nominations for this year are worthy candidates. I'm glad 'Jojo Rabbit' got on my radar this year. I had never heard of Taika Waititi, but I went back and watched all his movies (except 'Thor'--no interest in that genre), and really enjoyed them. He's a total goofball with a very unique directing style. Year V

There is plenty of good entertainment right in front of you. I just saw 'Knives Out' at the movie theater. It's very well done. Entertaining. Good cast. Nothing not to like. Clint Eastwood's 'Richard Jewel' is a good movie too. A little slow, but a good story, and again well acted and well made. No fluff, no agenda, no BS. All of the big budget movies get the most hype - the Star Wars, Marvel, latest Tom Cruise whatever. . but there are numerous other options out there. Just need to look past the front page.

TV: Very little. TCM and some reality shows. Not much else. Movies: If a movie interests me, I wait till its streaming. Hollyweird can KMA. Music: Modern music gags me. I am actually thinking of launching a rap / hip hop career since I am ugly, talent-less and stupid. I just need someone to shoot me and a stretch in jail to complete my resume. Film is a passion so no, not quitting. I will say 2019 was the worst year for film since I have been alive but I blame that on streaming services and series/shows. A lot of $ that in previous years was earmarked for film is now some got damn series on one of the ten streaming services or cable tv channels. Tv shows and series....just too many of them for me. Too much to keep up with. Watch one on HBO, then there is another on Netflix, Hulu, cable tv channel, Disney+, Apple TV, I mean it's endless now. It's saturated and trying to pick a gem out of all the shit is too much work. I'll stick to film. Music, yeah I kind of agree there. I just don't want to sift through all the commercial garbage to find the good stuff anymore. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

There's probably more great music out there than at anytime ever before. If you're listening to the radio, you'll never hear it. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Politics and agendas of the Hollyweirdos ruined movies for me, for the most part. TV still puts me to sleep, so there's that. Music streams from the internet to my home stereo all day most every day as background noise. Could I do without all of it? ... yepper, easily

While I agree that the pop culture media is getting worse, and has been for a while, I think it's less severe than it appears. We have a tendency to remember all the great things of the past and gloss over the real crap that came out of the same time. Nostalgia also makes it a lot harder to be objective when evaluating current entertainment vs older stuff. Some classics are great because they're truly great; some are great simply because they're classics. With TV especially, it's a hard comparison because it's not 10 channels anymore. It's 250 plus Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and all the rest. There are just as many great shows, if not more, but there's an ocean more garbage to sort them from. And many of them we can binge and watch in a week instead of having to watch over the course of months.

There hasn't been any "great" music since 1940. (Yeah--I'm a cantankerous geezer, who listens only to old Classical music.) (My radios all only know about the local Fine Arts station--WRR.) Movies? I haven't been to a theater in several years, but have seen a few flicks on airplanes. Last one was John Wick 3, I think--it had a lot of nice muzzle flashes. TV? Only watch a few cable channels, mostly documentaries and reruns of the NCIS genre. I do go to a local station when there are weather advisories--their coverage is better than the Weather channel. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

That's a good point. There is so much music out there that has never been heard because there's no money behind it to get it to your ears. Check out Reverb Nation, YouTube, BandCamp and CD Baby. I haven't been listening lately either so some of those may be defunct. I'll have to check later.

I'm always ranting to my wife about movies, TV shows, music and commercials due to liberalism and the global market. I long for good old fashioned American values, but that will never happen in this day and age. Also, I'm another youtube watcher. I watch hours of videos which entertain and inform me. I just wish it wasn't owned by GOOGLE. Retired Texas Lawman

Social media has destroyed my attention span to the point where I can’t watch tv. I’m pretty much relegated to sigforum, 2 minute videos and porn. I’ll watch Point Break if it’s on though.
