you are driving your 2017 ford edge w/ 33,000 miles on it, on a two lane highway. on a sunny clear day at 10 a.m.

The a guy, not from this country, side swipes you from bumper to bumper.

the county l.e.o. comes and the driver at fault can provide no s.s.#, no lic., no ins., no registration, but signs an $800.00 ticket and then all go on their own way. Eek Eek

Now, I was not there , it happened to a neighbor,
I don't know what came up on the l.e.o.'s computer ,
but shouldn't the car have been impounded until everything gets sorted out ?

Diplomatic immunity?

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

He will never appear in court. They will issue a warrant. They won't be able to find him. They will forget about it.

He should have been hauled off to the local county jail and car impounded.

That's what uninsured motorist coverage is for. Life's too short to get upset about things that you pay for insurance to cover. It's the things that aren't covered that should get one riled up.

If that car was unregistered with no insurance, there is no way that driver should have been able to leave the scene driving said vehicle.

It should have been towed to the impound lot and not released without proof of registration, insurance, paying the fine and picked up by a licensed driver.

I had a similar situation when working in Ann Arbor back in the mid-1970's. Uninsured motorist took the left side off my car (a nice MGB), cop gave him a ticket and he was never seen again.

Repairs got delayed due to his disappearance, it was nine months before I got it back. Poor repair job as well, but that's another rant.

Uninsured Motorist coverage sounds good, but the victim ends up paying the deductible, as well.

My guess is the jail is so full, they will no longer book in traffic violators.

From personal experience: In Arizona (Pima County), car is impounded and driver gets escorted away in handcuffs.

Happens here quite a bit, foreigners rent cars, don't get the insurance, cause wrecks, fly back home and never pay.

One buddy was almost killed when a foreigner stopped in the high speed toll lane, 70 mph road, the guy just stopped, a truck behind him swerved and missed him, my friend didn't, on the way home from work at BPC, the foreigner signed the ticket, totaled two cars, put my friend in the hospital for a long time and he is now disabled, can't work, and the guy flew home to his country and never paid a dime.

If you are not a resident citizen of the USA and you rent a car insurance should be required or take a cab.

Agencies never took SS numbers and stopped taking them for more reports short of an arrest report.

You said he had no dl or reg. That's vastly different than unregistered and unlicensed. Today they can be obtained via the datalink easy enough. Some states have online insurance info although mine never did. Unlicensed and unregistered would get the car impounded but the driver was never arrested. they are MV charges.

Uninsured motorist coverage is BS, yeah it'll pay to fix your car but your rates are still going to go up for making a claim.

Yeah happened to me. Less than a thousand miles on the car. Got the letter today from subrogation department, unable to collect so I am out the 100 bucks for the deductible. Uninsured motorist coverage paid three grand. Not happy but at least he got a ticket for no insurance and had to appear in court.
