$10.95 Mo. for unlimited legal coverage Civil & Criminal
Are you sure you've read all the fine print? It doesn't make sense that you would get that much for that little. Is the payout a reimbursement after you've won your case, by any chance? I don't know about you, but I could pay a lawyer for about four hours before running out of money. (That is at least better than in the past, where it wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes.)

Here's a question for those with knowledge of the system: Would an arrestee typically be permitted access to the contents of their wallet (the attorney's card) or their cell phone directory once they are in jail? If not, "the call" may need to occur before the police even arrive.

I can see having a lawyer's card in your pocket or his/her number on speed dial. After a shooting may not be a good time to be searching through the Yellow Pages.

Read the policy. The actual policy you're paying for will spell out exactly what coverage you're paying for. There will be terms. There will conditions. There will be things that void your coverage. There will be limits to your coverage. There will be things you might think are covered but are not. It will be legalese. It will be boring. It might put you to sleep. Read the policy.

If $11/month gives you peace of mind by all means spend the money but make sure you know exactly what you're buying. Read the policy.

You always get one phone call. This is not Russia. Just be nice and say I want to tell you what happened AFTER I call my attorney.

I would think, if they don't have to go hands on to detain or arrest you and you show no tendency toward violence or trying to escape, they'll leave you uncuffed. The one time I was arrested, once we got to the station, they uncuffed me, left me in the lobby unattended, said they had about 20 min. of paperwork to do, would drive me home after that and asked if I wanted anything to drink while I waited. They knew I wasn't gonna fight them and wasn't going to try to run.

Let’s put the matter of self-defense insurance to rest.

First a little back ground on me.
I am 74 years old fast approaching 75. I spent 5 years in my twenties serving as a criminal defense investigator in Dallas, Texas putting myself through college. Wild times!!! Then some 35 years in the general insurance business owning two large insurance agencies offering homeowners, auto, worker’s compensation, general liability and other types of insurance. More recently engaging in mortgage lending, residential construction and computer software design.

I am generally retired but still active as a
Certified NRA Pistol Instructor
Colorado Concealed Handgun Pistol Permit Instructor
Agent representative of US LawShield Nationwide for all but 6 States
And still making real estate deals.

Texas & US LawShield do not offer insurance, but instead offers a “contract for financial payment” to an independent defense attorney on the behalf of contract holders defending themselves from death or great bodily harm with a legal weapon in a place where they have a legal right to be. There is more, but this is the gist….

So when someone mentions insurance you can pretty well understand that they likely do not understand what the discussion concerns. Insurance is a fortuitous incident that is generally unforeseen. Shooting someone deliberately is not a fortuitous act.

Can These Companies Pay?
As most of you know, concealed weapons carriers have a very low incidence of criminal activity. While the contract coverage is sold to other than CCW folks, those who buy the contract are generally not criminal elements.

US LawShield has approximately 380,000 member @ ~ $11 a month generates about $4,180,000.00 a month income. That should indicate the ability to handle a $1,000,000 defense case.

Homeowners Insurance
I have been a licensed agent in Texas and Colorado with nationwide training in Boston. To my knowledge no coverage is provided under a homeowners liability Section II for an intentional shooting or even under an umbrella. And therein lies an opportunity if you do not admit to an intentional shooting. Accidental shooting is frequently covered. If you don’t run your mouth to the police at the scene of your shooting, maybe it was accidental after all.

Has US LawShield Defended a Member.
For MNSIG - Yes on several occasions. Just this month I got another notification of successful defense of a member using a Taser to stop an aggressor.

What States Have Coverage Available?
All states except NY, CN DE RI AK ME.
Loswsmith – My records indicate that US LawShield is available in Washington State

When To Call A Defense Attorney:
US LawShield recommends a call to the 24 hour program attorney immediately after a call to 911 reporting the incident. The Wallet card also contains the keeping silent notice.

For anyone seeking more specific information, I can be reached on my email in the members section. Discussion by email or phone is good.

I am a new member, but not otherwise involved. Just more to consider below.

US Law Shield offers a hotline 24-7 to attorneys on call (something like 17 here in PA) who know state laws and will come to you right away. They recommend that you call them immediately after 911 but before any statements, and provide instructions on how to stay safe, comply, and also protect your legal rights. So yes, I always considered it more of retainer. I'm sure it's not much help if you are doing something nefarious or act stupidly out of anger.

It is beginning to end, even appeals w/o caps, limits, or deductibles. For any LEGAL weapon / instrument used for self defense... bat, auto, whatever.

They provide some online info and also sponsor local seminars. Ex; first aid, and laws on lethal use of force.

Few other extras can be added like for hunters, and also for temporary carry/travel to other states.

+1. This is a fact I reconciled with as well. I have CCW Safe, a firm who has successfully defended a murder charge. The way things are these days I’d feel naked if I didn’t have some type of legal defense in place just in case. Not so much for my home, Florida has a good castle doctrine, but rather if I’m out and about and the situation deteriorates into ‘whatever’.
