FDR's armored Pullman Car, the Ferdinand Magellan
The president's armored Pullman Car, used before Air Force 1. I had no idea this even existed!

In addition to that, he had a whole US Army Battalion stationed at his home in Hyde Park, NY and whenever he was there, the Coast Guard would station an armed cutter in the Hudson River right behind the estate, they were afraid the Germans would try to send a U-boat up the river with commandos to assassinate him.

I went to school like a mile away from that site.

I love these kinds of stories. A few years ago I was interested in and researched the secret FDR Train Car hidden underground in NYC. Turns out to not be true but it was a lot of fun exploring a lost train station Smile
