I've found these packets to be great for extending the shelf life of nuts, grains, coffee, tea, etc.

They are not to be confused with silica gel, which absorbs water.

I vacuum seal most things these days, but yeah...they work well too. Nothing worse than a bag of rancid nuts when you need them and the grocery store is closed.
