Rather than adding to Bendable's SigForum slow opening thread I'm starting this one.

My android phone and Brave browser have been giving me a DNS error on and off. When I can connect it requires me to login each time. Tried flushing the cache, etc. to no avail. Any suggestions?
I have no issues with my desktop running windows 10.

The phone gives 24.124.25.109 which is my ISP.
The desktop gives 172.68.58.75 which who.is says no records exist

Two questions

Is your phone connected to both cell service and wifi?

Do both exhibit the issue near about the same time?

Yes connected to both which I toggle between.

Haven't checked to see if both have the same problems at the same time.

When it happens, is it repeatable for several minutes? If so, can you connect to your phone as a hotspot for your PC and try when it happens?

I suspect it is your ISP router.

If you want to, email me your provider and modem make/model and I will assist in having you use a safe and reliable DNS. (if those settings are available to you. Most are, but some providers restrict access)

Many public DNS providers have publicized their "site blocking" of things like porn, "dark web," and others (including firearms retailers and manufacturers). Perhaps you are seeing early efforts to include SF in the block lists.

Typically, they will return 127.0.0.1 (localhost) to queries, or just time out.

The desktop gives 172.68.58.75 which who.is says no records exist
That simply means that the administrator of that netblock has not published a PTR record for that address.

This is very sloppy when the system in question is a DNS resolver, and poor practice in the general case. However, maintaining accurate DNS records for a large subnet is tedious, and usually doesn't result in difficulties, so it isn't at all unusual.

There are also add-ons for DNS responders that are increasingly being used to block domains identified as hosting spammers and other miscreants. Not that I would expect to find SF on one of these lists, but mistakes happen.

Try using reputable anycast public DNS resolvers like 1.1.1.1 (CloudFlare) and/or 8.8.8.8 (Google). My whois shows that the [172.68.58.75] address is part of a /8 netblock allocated to CloudFlare, and I suspect it is a valid non-anycast DNS resolver address.

How do you change the DNS on an android phone Brave browser? There is no option in the settings.

Have been away from Android long enough not to remember, but you don't do it in the browser, you do it in the OS, perhaps under network settings or the like.

If you are getting a DHCP lease for your phone's IP address (almost always) DNS resolvers are provided by the lease issuers (usually your access point/router). You would change the DNS servers specified by DHCP in your lease issuer's configuration. How to do this varies by vendor, but it is usually on a web page at your router's IP (which would also be the default route shown on your phone).

That's why I asked make/model and provider of your router.
I stated the issue is likely that, not your phone.

(I've been doing this since '86. (D)ARPANET)

If you have Admin access (not "user" as some ISPs permit)

Log in. (make note of you DNS servers before you change them.)

Advanced Settings
-Local Network Settings
--bottom DNS Settings
---Manual (Hit continue if prompted by :Safe Settings" warning)
----Enter 1.1.1.1 and if a second Name Server option is available use 9.9.9.9
-----Save.

Restart the router.

These are CloudFlair and Quad9 DNS name servers.

See if that fixes the issue.

If you are not able to get to that setting, let me know.

Problem occurs only with wifi and not the Verizon network.

OK.

Is Verizon only the cellular phone service?

Who is the service provider for your modem/router?

If you are using WiFi supplied by your modem/router for your phone and computer, and both those devices are having the connection issue as stated in your first post.

"My android phone and Brave browser have been giving me a DNS error on and off."

Even if you have cellular service AND you have your phone connected to your WiFi, most phones will use WiFi FIRST, before using cellular data as it is less cost to the cellular provider, and typically costs nothing for the customer.

You likely have a DNS server issue (the server(s) used are provisioned by your ISP), and you can (often) change them to other DNS servers, that are faster, offer better security of traffic, and other benefits. The two I listed are fast/secure, and trusted.

If you made the changes I posted in my last message, did it make a difference?

I am trying to help. I ask specific question and give specific steps.
If you do not follow them or answer the questions, it's like trying to walk you through disarming a bomb.

P.S. I am not a chatbot.

Been up since 0630, so I am heading to bed.

See you in the AM...

That is the "gateway" address of your router.

Think of the gateway as the on/off ramp on the interstate, everything (computer) has to use it to get in and out of the network.

Call the ISP support and open a case.

If you have "hotspot" capable phone and unlimited data, set your phone up and connect your computer to it either USB or the Hotspot is another WiFi network you can connect to until you get the router/modem looked at.

They can get flakey over time or from power surges.
