400mFuel prices
How much difference in price per gallon of gas would make you go to someplace other than your usual gas station? And does that price difference still stand if you have to wait in line? Or does that depend on how far away it is?

1s1kI couldn’t even tell you exactly how much gas is right now. I’ve never in my life after 25 years old paid much attention to prices. It’s something I have to buy regardless and I figure the difference in price from place to place isn’t going to be worth driving out of my way to make it worthwhile.
Yesterday I looked at my portfolio and it was by far the biggest dollar gain I’ve had in my life so I would rather focus on that.

tatortoddGet the Gas Buddy app.
I have mine narrowed down to just the
Top Tier gas stations so it's all high quality with premium additives (i.e. not gov't minimum). Quite often there will be a $0.30 per gallon difference.
For example I just opened it up, there are 3 exits to my neighborhood where Sunoco and Shell are both $3.89 but Chevron is $4.29. 1 block difference for $0.30 and by using the Gas buddy app I didn't waste a drop of fuel driving around hunting for the best price.

mrvmaxHonestly I think people have been brain washed into thinking differences in a nickel a gallon is going to cause financial ruin. If you are going broke over an extra quarter a gallon by choosing the wrong gas station, you have bigger issues.
I buy my gas at Costco since they offer Top Tier fuel and I do not even pay attention to how much it is. I’m not joy riding and buy gas because I need it for my daily life. Even if Costco is $1 a gallon more, 13 dollars is not going to cause me to go bankrupt. There are much greater concerns in this world than saving a couple cents a gallon by driving around town to find the lowest price per gallon.

P250UA5Costco is on my route to my grocery store, so I just take whichever car needs a fill-up and swing through there.
On average, they seem to be slightly cheaper if not the same as most of the main-line stations around us.

Fly-SigThe nearest two stations are more expensive by 5-10 cents than down in the valley. I don't like being below half a tank, so if I have no plans to be in the valley soon, I pay the local price.
A line waiting for a pump usually deters me from buying there, regardless of price or fuel level unless I'm below 1/4 tank.
When we lived in the heart of the resort, gas was another 10-20 cents higher. That definitely encouraged me to buy elsewhere.
But I don't go out of my way just to buy cheaper gas. It realistically costs about $1 per mile to operate my cars, so it does not pay to go afield for cheaper gas. I monitor the fuel level and plan accord to my schedule.

BigSwedeThe gas where I work is always 20-30 cents cheaper than the area around my home, don't know why.

HRKHaving two EV's, the only time I get gas is for the lawn mower or motorcycle, at that point it's 5 gallons max typically so a few cents either way isn't something that tips my decision meter.
It's more about does the station have top tier gas, is it clean, safe, and have clean bathrooms.

400mI don’t know what gas prices are either. I just don’t pay attention. I need it and I’m not willing to price shop for it.
This morning before I clocked in I'm did a search for average gallons used by Americans in a year. It’s roughly 575 gallons. Which means if you chase a dime in fuel costs you save $60 per year. No thanks. I’m going to my normal gas station.

FredwardInteresting timing. My usual station was 4.49. The Wawa down the road was 3.99. I usually need about 18-20 gallons in my truck, so I went down the road. (Gas Buddy.) I can afford the difference, but why? Also, WaWa has good coffee.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

arfmel^^^maybe read the thread. The thread titles are similar but the question asked and the responses are not.

4MUL8RI agree that we need much better thread titles.
Here, we would entitle "What gas price difference makes a difference?"
