It was not my experience when we went in 2012. I think it was fairly close to when the show was first televised.

My wife and I were the only people in the non smoking section of the restaurant, which is seperated from the bar/smoking area, so the place had not caught on yet.

I tried to go to a BBQ place in Charleston that was featured and they wanted $99 for a family pack.

I'm sure it's good, but it ain't that damn good!

I guess it's all Monopoly money over there though, lol!

Rented a BMW M3 from SIXT in Munich last year for 1 day for a bucket list day on the autobahn. It cost a lot for the high horsepower cars but it was worth it. I did not like driving on the narrow neighborhood streets in Munich where cars were parked on both sides of the street. I would definitely have a small car if I lived in Europe.

About an hour outside of Munich the speed limit signs on the heads up display went to "suggested 130km", the left lane was open for 2 miles in front of me and I let it rip to 255km Wink

I have a few SIGs.

In 2007 we drove ~1200 miles in Germany. We accidently crossed into Austria and Switzerland.

Driving there was a pure pleasure. Less than 10 stop signs, less than 10 electric signals, everyone uses their turn signals, everyone leaves the passing lane open, & no trucks in the left lane for all 1200 miles.

Have a blast!

Prague is a neat city to walk around. There is a museum, Soviet block era, on the hill above the river.

Another museum, des Deutsches Museum (?) in downtown Munich. Incredible technical museum. Also the BMW museum and the Olympic grounds in Munich. Went swimming in the pool there years ago.

If there is any interest in military history, there is the museum of military history in Vienna.

If anyone in your party is interested in cars, I highly recommend to BMW factory tour in Munich. Just the logistics behind that operation are awe inspiring.

If you head that far south, the REAL original Porsche museum is in Gmuend, Austria, about an hour past Salzburg. That's where it really began. Gorgeous small town and the cars there are just amazing. It will not be crowded because no one knows about it.

And Hirter is the best beer in Austria, but it's hard to find outside of Carinthia. Still look for it. Goesser isn't bad, but it's the the default beer when you can't find anything better. In Prague you want Staropramen first, then Budvar, then Pilsener Urquell. But then you can't go wrong with any of them.

The food was great and it was a nice little local place. Called Wratschko Gastwirtschaft

^^This^^ All of it.

When I was in Vienna two years ago, everyone I knew as foodies all steered me away from Wratschko. Not saying it was bad but, things had changed there, as the show Bourdain did there was nearly a decade ago. Definitely, when in Vienna, you have to treat yourself to a nice tafelspitz dinner.

Second picking-up Steves book, pretty much my go-to for Euro travel, his podcast show and app are just as valuable, particularly the self-guided tours. He's spot-on when it comes to history, putting it into perspective and finding a range of accommodations. Food places, he's good for listing the unique and the value places but, not so much when it comes to solid, good places.
