Somewhat renowned for shooting off his mouth more than training, James Yeager announced on YT over the weekend that he may have ALS.
While there are mixed opinions on Yeager, he has reportedly instructed 88K students– mostly at his Tactical Response facility– over the past 25 years and garnered almost 20 million views on his surviving channel.
ALS is a terrible disease, and this is sad news, no matter if you agree or disagree with him.
ALS is awful and I certainly wouldn't wish it on anyone, but lemme get this straight... This well-known attention whore and poseur made a video to announce that he might have ALS?

It's quite uncommon for me to sit, looking at the Reply window, trying to figure out exactly what I wish to say.
Of course no one wants the man to have this debilitating, ultimately terminal disease. I hope it turns out that he doesn't have ALS and that whatever condition he has is treatable and manageable.
(another pause, looking at the Reply box)
My initial reaction was "Why are we hearing about this?" People in the online community get sick all the time, but Yeager is far from inconspicuous; he has made sure of that, so I suppose it's unavoidable that a bulletin should come our way.
Are we to feel differently about the man, now that we have this news? James Yeager is not, in my opinion, a friend to gun owners in this nation, nor has he aided us in any way with our struggles against the attrition of the rights of gun owners. His clownish, reckless, foolish and potentially lethal grandstanding actions of having attendees of his training classes stand next to targets which are being shot at by other attendees, is insanity. Such a thing is helpful to no one- not the attendees, not the people viewing videos of these things happening- helpful to no one, that is, except those who seek to paint gun owners as maniacs.
What, then, should I say? Should I say that I wish for him to continue with this and other controversial things he has said and done? I am many things, but I am not a hypocrite. I hope for his sake that the diagnosis is wrong and that he lives a full life, but he needs to cease aiding the enemies of American gun owners and the Constitution.

I attended one of his classes and had more good take-aways than from most formal training, but this is most certainly true.

After watching a video on shotgun advice a few months ago, it was apparent that something was happening to his speech.
I've done a few motorcycle and shooting schools over the past couple decades, and had the opportunity to repeat some of the better ones . And, made a few long distance/long time interval friends, too.
I lost one of my closest friends, a fellow shooter and motorcycle enthusiast to ALS a few years ago.
Its bothering me and as parabellum said, I hope its something lesser than ALS.

I don't like the man. I've said it before, I don't think he has a humble bone in his body. I don't wish ill on him though. Tactical Response is in the next county from where I grew up and my best friend used to work for him.

My buddy lasted less than a year from diagnosis. First sign was slurred speech, as if he was drunk or had suffered a stroke.
ALS is a piece of shit disease. Dying by inches.

After all his shenanigans, I'm continually surprised (perhaps I shouldn't) that he continues to get attention from gun owners.

His public persona rubs me the wrong way. That said, I bought his five DVD training videos (on sale for $100) and they are excellent.

Everybody has their good and bad side, we cannot please everybody!! I cannot wish this on anybody, even those I hate, it is a horrible death and we all deserve better. I will pray for him!

Why state the obvious?
The man has endangered the lives of people who have attended his training classes, by having students stand right next to targets whch were being shot at on a live range.
That goes far beyond "Well, so-and-so can be abrasive or unreasonable in certain matters" or whatever.

I’m no fan, but that was hard to watch, and I didn’t get far. Before he even spoke, the first thing I noticed is the sunken skin around the temples and cheekbones. He’s staring to get that sickly, skeletal look. I can relate.
