What does the typical police cruiser have under the hood these days?

Forsyth County runs Dodge Charger Pursuits, based on the images on their website. The 5.7L V8 is 370 hp, with a 149 mph computer-limited top speed. There isn’t an official top speed listed for the 5.7 without the limiter, but I found one reference to a top speed of 166 mph, which seems reasonable.

I grew up a rocks throw from Post Rd and Bethelview Rd depending on how far you throw. I know a deputy or two working there still. Glad this ended well for the deputy. Don’t think the youngster will fare well in court.

Crazy road speed. Young folks think they are indestructable.

140 MPH on roads with twists, turns, and hills is crazy. Doing it at night when visibility is significantly reduced is insane.

I had a client get pulled over on a deserted road in NE Montana doing 145 in a $100k+ BMW. The Highway Patrol gave him a warning and told him to slow down. But I remember when Montana didn't have a daytime speed limit.

That PIT took place awful quick, I wonder if it was deliberate. Seemed like the BMW was better at bleeding off the speed than the Charger.

I had a BMW blow by me at 88 in a 40 one time. I flipped on him and he turned off onto a side road and hammered down. I turned behind him and lit it up, but he was leaving me in the dust (Durango is limited at 110). The road Ts about 2 miles after the turn, and he was about 1/4-1/2 mile ahead of me when he got to the T...I could still see his taillights, but not much more. He didn't make the turn...slid off the road and hit a tree. He was gone when I got to the car, but ended up giving up and walking out of the woods when he heard I was calling for a K9. Apparently he didn't want to get bit.

Dumb kid, recently turned 18, making stupid choices. Worst part was he had just lost a buddy in a particularly nasty car crash a few months before...one that shook the whole community. He even told me that he and his buddy always said one of them would die in a car wreck the way they drove. I told him it could have been both of them, and he was lucky that he was only going to jail, not ending up like his buddy, or killing somebody else.

I did some dumb stuff when I was younger, but running from the cops was never on the list, nor would I have even considered it.

Yeah….140 through town at night? No way. I would have terminated that in a second.

My old Crown Vic Police Inteceptor would go faster than 140, but that’s all I ever got it up to. A deputy in the county had called signal 25(officer needs help) & I got left in the dust by a Trooper in a Camaro.

The CVPI began to float at about 100. I dunno about the Chargers. But my first police car was a Chevy Caprice police package and it would snug down to the road at high speed. It drove like a Cadillac in pursuits.

A couple hairy moments where the pursuing officer got a wiggle out of the car on the curve.

So how do they base the speed, if the cop was running 140, then the BMW wouldn't be, other wise you couldn't catch it, unless the BMW slowed down for whatever reason...

IF that BMW was running 140 then the Charger would have had to be pushing 180 or more to catch it in that amount of time.

I'm guessing the BMW wasn't doing 140, if that was the pursuing speed.
Officer didn't even seem to give the BMW a chance to stop, but maybe that was the best option, to just end it there & not put people at further risk.

It did appear as if the BMW was slowing maybe to a stop, at least his tail lights were indicating breaking as the patrol vehicle got closer in fact they looked lit under breaking when the car was pitted.

I was getting this image in my head as the video was playing and couldn't stop hearing " My Top End is unlimited! and I'm gonna eat your lunch you long haired faggot!"

Yeah, the Caprice was awesome. I got my Caprice up to 137 in a pursuit. It handled better over 100 mph. Loved that car!

That is a multiple time daily occurrence in Arkansas. On YouTube, search LRHN and Arkansas State Police. ASP officers are PIT MASTERS. Seems here in Arkansas everyone decides to Felony Flee. ASP will PIT everything up to and including Box Trucks.

That officer did a really good job at pitting that idiot. We are prohibited from pitting in my agency. Our only tool for pursuits is spikes. We are too rural for a helo, and we are few and far between.

I haven’t been in any pursuits recently, but I’m confident in my 2020 CVPIwith Ecoboost With premium, it can do just short of 150 from the factory. However, with regular and the added weight and equipment hindering aerodynamics, mine won’t make it there. Daily, I go after speeders, and for the ones not slowing down after hitting my lights, over 120 and sometimes into 130s isn’t uncommon. Our policy is strict on motorists safety, so factors have to be taken into account before going into afterburner mode.
