$200 is hardly a wad. Maybe he should've just asked out loud who lost $200 and see if anyone would claim it? _____________

I posted about a watch I had found in the past inside the home of its now deceased original owner. We were there to remove a few safes and the house was to be gutted by the rehabber that purchased it. It was an older lower end Omega, and even though not one of their high end watches was worth several hundred dollars. There were photos of the owner while serving in the military during Korea wearing the watch. His name was on certificates hanging on the wall. I took the watch to my watch guy, had him clean it up and get it working properly, and replace the missing band. I then tracked down a few grandchildren and reached out to them. I told them I had something that belonged to their grandfather that they may wish to have returned. No response to e-mails. No returned phone calls. I still have the watch.

Over the years I've found some money, off and on. One and the largest was while taking my dog for a walk up by the golf course. It was a $20 blowing along near a green. So we (me'n Spot) walked out and picked it up. No golfers in sight. We sat for a while, then walked on. It only bothered me a little, so I gave it to my favorite charity, my wife. We have an arrangement, I have the fun of finding it, she has the fun of spending it. Spot and I (he was a dalmatian) were only together for 13 years. My wife is mean to me and won't let me have another dog. But she got the $20 and I don't know where to go with this. It certainly didn't do me or Spot much good. Wife is still mean and the events won't reoccur because I don't go dog walking these days. Wish I had him back, but if I somehow found another $20, I'd still give it to my ungrateful wife. But I'd beg for another dog that good. And if she wanted money, I'd open my billfold and give her $20 or however much she wanted/needed. And I still miss my dog. Unhappy ammo seeker

Several ago in Dallas, a couple found a duffel bag full of cash and a pistol. If I remember correctly, it was in excess of $100,000. They did the right thing and turned it in to the police department. It remained unclaimed and after the appropriate period of time, the couple asked to have it back. Police would not give it back stating it was drug money (and probably was). Couple had to sue the PD to get money back and they finally did.

Gone but Together Again. Dad & Uncle |
Back when I was just a wee lad, about 14 or so, I had ridden my bike up to KMart. When leaving I checked out the bubble gum/etc. machines and found a ladies wallet. There was over $50 in it and that was a lot of money to me. I did the right thing and ultimately the security guard in the back gave me a receipt and told me it was mine if it wasn't claimed in 30 days. I called every week and each time I was told it had NOT been claimed. After the 30 days went by they told me the same thing so I rode my bike to KMart. Lo and behold, they couldn't find the wallet and said someone must have claimed it between when I called and I had arrived to their store. Lesson learned? I did the right thing, still think I did the right thing, and someone at Kmart did a bad thing and took the money for themselves. Fast forward about 8 years and I found a mans wallet at a large nearby lake. This one had a drivers license in it. With the old KMart story still in my mind, I took it home rather than turn it into the Park Ranger station. I wrapped it up and put it in the mail to the address shown on the drivers license.

Thank you Very little |
$200 found on the street, I'd say the guy that lost it was on his way to a strip club, for a couple of lap dances and drinks. You need to go to the closest strip club, buy a lap dance or two so that the money goes to the single moms as it was originally intended as if the guy had not dropped the money in the first place..

You can really tell a persons character by what they say anonymously on the internet. Different story if it's their property lost.

It something less than 200 dollars. It is literally pocket money. You guys are acting like you need to contact the FBI for a handful of 20’s that were lost. This ain’t friggin Sophie’s Choice here. It’s pocket money. Call the Mounties! Most definitely the most disappointing thread I’ve wandered into to. Expecting No country for old men Part 2 and instead get somebody lost grocery money. Except I did enjoy the self righteousness preaching. If you’d pick up a five and put it in your pocket you committed the same crime. Sheesh.

Hey! what have you got against strippers!

I would continue to follow up with the store ask to see any surveillance videos - the owner and not the weenie behind the counter is who you need to talk to depending on who actually dropped it, $200 might be pocket change, or it could be enough money to buy medicine for a month

Okay, So I went by the gas station and they hadn't heard anything. The manager knows me as I routinely prepay for fuel and buy a bottle of caffeine. Said he would let me know if anything changes.

Let's stop with this "wad" stuff. $200 is not a wad. It falls into the category of just slightly above finding some change on the street. If you are completely and totally uncomfortable take it to the police. otherwise just spend it. If it makes you feel better donate it. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I treasure hunted every summer in Lake Washington for a long time. In 1012 I found a wallet with $1050 in it. I dried everything and mailed it back to the owner in Florida. I got a "Than You". What amazed me is- My coworkers knew I treasure hunted and 9 out of 10 said flat out I was stupid to have returned it. If you lack integrity fine but why would you openly tell people. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

I’ve lost my wallet two times in my life. Both were returned so I would have to make it an extra point to try and find the rightful owner. The first time I was riding my motorcycle and lost it apparently on this super long very steep hill. No houses around but some young kid was training for a karate tournament and found it in the ditch while running that hill. Did not want any money but wanted a ride on the motorcycle. I did give him some money as well. The other time I dropped it in a dark parking lot and didn’t realize it until I got to a mall about 45 minutes away. I new exactly what happened so I backtracked but it was gone. I was bummed and the next morning I went out to get the paper and the person who found it obviously looked at my drivers license and found my home and stuck it between the front door and the storm door. Both times I had over $100 in it and nothing was taken either time. Plenty of great people out there.

Total class. I believe in karma as well. Forget that I want to know what you do for longevity.

It’s not total class. You guys are literally talking about two completely different scenarios. For fucks sake if you find a wallet you have the information you need to return the fucking thing. If you don’t then it is stealing. When a few bills blows by as you walk a sidewalk you literally have basically zero chance to identify the owner. It’s certainly not theft and it’s certainly not the result of ill breeding or lack of moral integrity. Apples and oranges.

If it were me, and I found some cash with no identification, I'd make a reasonable and decent attempt to find the owner. If after a reasonable amount of time and no response, I'd go buy as much canned meat as I could with it and donate it to the weekly food pantry at the Church down the street. If you don't need it, if the $200 won't make any difference in your life, go donate it, let someone else benefit from it. Food pantries always need extras. Best wishes to you. .

I lost my wallet when I was in the Army. It was my first duty station and it would have been really, really bad if I lost it at that time. Some Sergeant Major found it and used post resources to find my unit and get it back to me. His gesture really made an impact on me. I figure I own fate something for that good deed. Today, I've turned in three wallets I've found on the street. Sometimes, it's darn hard to get it back to the owner. I found one dropped by a lady from Canada but her address wasn't on any of the contents. None of the companies that she did business with would give me info for security reasons. I ended up leaving it with the manager at Costco since she had a card and I trust the company. It was a LOT of work. I found twenty dollars in the garbage when working as a janitor. I put the cash in an envelope and placed it in the person's chair. It wasn't a lot of money but the person was really grateful - he was getting laid off and the small act made an impact on him. My fellow employees told me I was stupid. That's the key point; you're spreading good will when you return something. The gesture reminds people that there is still good in the world. That really means something. Small amounts of cash blowing around on the street? I'll look around for a potential owner but I'll just pocket it if I don't see anyone. V.
