What are the citizenship statuses of the parents in this hypothetical situation? And where is the plane flying at the time of birth?

I think they only get U.S. Citizenship if the vessell is within U.S. waters/air space.

I believe the same rules apply. Whether it's a ship, plane, etc. If it is within U.S. airspace, then they would have U.S. Citizenship.

It depends if the children’s parent want them to remain whatever country the parents belong to,
Or the child is automatically a US citizen if there is no objection.

We had this come up while rescuing Haitians while underway. The State Dept at the time told us that if the parent(s) wanted the child to be Haitian, than the corpsman would fill in Haitian, if they wanted the kid to be US then doc filled in “born aboard USCG Val #1234” thereby making the kid a US citizen.

Some country’s DONT allow their citizens to have dual citizenship and they must make a choice.

That reminds me of the George Carlin routine where he pondered whether committing a mortal sin, then crossing the International Dateline so he’d land when it was the day before, meant he never committed the sin in the first place...

Children born are citizens of their parents nation. Those born in another nation can have duel citizenship.
Ted Cruz is an example. Mother is a US citizen. Cruz is born in Canada. Remember the arguements about being a native born citizen?
Children born overseas on military bases again can have duel citizen. Had a whiner in Basic that was going to get drafted by the German or American Army. Wish he joined the German.
One question I got a lot of calls about was for birth certificates of children born on overseas military bases. When a need for the birth certificate arose, people went looking. Turns out, a child returns to the US on his mother’s passport. The state Department has the birth records and can issue a birth certificate.
As for born on an aircraft, the first answer is to determine the parents citizenship. If in a nations airspace then that nations laws apply. As memory serves a baby was born and a C-17 AFTER the airplane had landed in the US. While the baby could be called an “anchor baby” they would have to reach adulthood before taking advantage of it.
