smlsigQuestions on how to track a shipping container
I purchased a product from a US distributor that is made in South Africa. I was originally told to expect at the end of January and here I sit without the product. Every time I contact them I here it is on the ship and will be arriving in NJ next week...
I’m getting a little frustrated and my question is is there an online way to track a ship (I would think so) but also track an individual shipping container?
Thank you.

SMLgraybeardEddie, I use ixquick as my browser and found a lot of ways to track containers. Depends on what info you have on the shipment as to which service you use. Email me if you want more info I may find.

joel9507Hope the ship with your stuff is on its way or sets sail soon.
WSJ had an interesting article yesterday about how the economic situation is affecting container ships.
quote:
Ocean carriers have canceled hundreds of services, parked ships and sent vessels on longer voyages to eat up capacity and preserve their finances amid diving trade volumes.

smlsigThanks guys.
It’s funny, when I asked for the name of the ship and container number I got a call back that it arrived yesterday and has gone through customs and will be at the distributor tomorrow...

jimmy123xYou can track a ship pretty easily. Go to
www.marinetraffic.com and put the ships name in the search box, once you click on the right one, look at the map and look at it's ETA to destination. An individual container, I don't know how to track.
As to see how many ships are moving on the ocean, just look at a map of an area and zoom out, it's mind boggling how many ships are underway at a given time.

WolfpackerThat’s good news. When I was in charge of procuring materials from overseas, I built in a lot of lead time + safety stock.
My product could be produced as scheduled but sit in a partial container for days, weeks waiting for the container to fill. Then for the ship to fill and sail.
Hoping that all works out well for you.

When I was procuring from Germany, when the supplier sent us the invoice which starts the clock ticking for us to pay, ship name, ETA, container number, BL were included in the email.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
