Here is another one for me. The Breaking of The Fellowship music at the end the The LOTR: The Fellowship of The Ring. A masterpiece that perfectly conveys the mood of the ending scene that begins with profound sadness and ends with rays of hope. Chokes me up every time. Strange, even just writing about it tears me up.

As I get older, there are many across all genres; too numerous to mention. As a former piper, I will select "Highland Cathedral". This pipe tune was written in 1982 by two German fellows for a highland games taking place there. Over the years, it has become so popular in Scotland that lyrics have been written and there has been a call for it to become the National Anthem.

It is usually played with a massed band of pipers accompanied by a military brass band and sometimes a choir. In looking for an example, I came across this version that I had never seen before. It is of Andre Reiu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. The classical styling of the orchestra combined with the pipes make this the most haunting and beautiful version I have ever heard. The video also proves that I'm not the only one who gets choked up by this tune. Enjoy.

I always loved the Muppets and my kids do too. They are older now and everytime I hear that song it reminds me of when they were young and we’d watch the movies together.

It’s not necessarily sadness that I feel but not really joy either. I love them being older and watching them grow but damn I miss those days.

Plus it’s just a damn good song.

Maggie's Song by Chris Stapleton. The first time I heard this song, I was on a jobsite and this song came on. I was a mess by the time the song was finished. Maggie had been gone about 5 years when I heard it and all the emotions of losing her came flooding back.

My 2nd dog was a rescued black lab mutt named Maggie. She took a few years to really bond, but when she did, she was all in. She loved the water and running through the woods. She was the most loving dog I've had. She was also the first dog my wife and I lost. We waited too long to make the call and she passed about 7 in the morning wrapped up in my arms. I know she was in pain and I've never really forgiven myself for allowing her to suffer more than necessary. I still can't make it through the song without tearing up think about her.

Have to add You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" by Patty Loveless, it ties back to her family roots in the Eastern Kentucky Coal Mines, black lung which is the meaning of the song...

Her voice is amazing... others have done the song justice, but none have the same feeling as her rendition..

That's one for me as well. She does such a wonderful job. In fact, the whole album (Mountain Soul) makes for a great listening experience.
