… apparently as some sort of dispute settlement. That account has been closed for a good three years, replaced by a Capital One Mastercard. The amount? A whopping $2.19. Roll Eyes By the time they paid someone to figure out that there was even a problem, compute the amount and mail it, it probably cost them more than that.

I called Western Union to have a money order canceled.
Four weeks later the money order came back to me "return to sender, un deliverable.

I took it in and got a refund in full.

Called Western Union tell them NOT to send me a refund check as the problem was solved.

They assured me, don't worry, it can't be sent out now as it is "in the computer as refunded."

10 days later I got a Western Union refund check , in mail.

Synchrony Bank is the rebranded name for GE Capital Retail Bank

They've settled numerous class action lawsuits (promotional credits, mishandling bankruptcy, robodialing, etc) so no telling which one. Only thing certain is the lawyers did better than the victims.

It’s a dispute settlement meaning someone brought a class action lawsuit. The attorneys made out big time relatively speaking.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Synchrony bank tried to charge me a late fee because my payment had arrived one day before the new billing cycle started. Therefore, the payment was posted in the previous billing cycle and the current bill was then deemed late.
However, the payment was sent by my bank on a schedule via a mailed check - sent the day after Synchrony said it posted to the account. It's a scam for them to generate income via late fees. I had my bank prove when the payment was sent and Synchrony called it a "glitch". Yeah, whatever - it's one of the reasons they get sued all the time...
