OTOH, we recall that our Russian friends did NOT like peanut butter. De gustibus....

Tried it many years back.

I look at it as the European version of kimchee.

You have to be raised on it to like it.

I wasn't and I don't.

my wife likes marmite on toast with butter and crunchy peanut butter. it tastes a bit like the planters roasted peanuts that way. I like it with just butter. we have some brought over every time my wife's parents come visit. going by amazon's stupid prices on it, we probably have a $1000 stash of it.....

Neither did the Germans I knew while stationed over there. They were horrified when I explained to them the concept of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and how it was one of the most common and popular sandwiches in America.

[Crocodile Dundee] You can live on it, but it tastes like shit.

I haven't actually tried it, but "it's an acquired taste" sets off red flags. Razz

I learnt to love Vegemite when I was a small kid growing up in Australia. I eat both Marmite and Vegemite daily. Usually spread it on a piece of buttered toast. But, I have used both Marmite and Vegemite as a thing that I add to soups that I make. It adds an unctous, umami taste to the soups and make them taste so much better. But, almost no one else seems to like my soups that have Marmite or Vegemite as an ingredient.

If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!!

I didn't experience it until my late 20's and a quite like it here and there. Then again, I prefer salty and savory over sweet every time.

If you haven't had it, imagine something like a tangier mix of beef and chicken bullion paste for taste, and for texture, that bullion paste mixed with molasses and you'll be pretty close.

It and Vegemite are basically by products from brewing beer. Just give me the beer and nobody gets hurt.

I just ordered a 4.4 oz jar of Marmite for $7.05 from Amazon. Does it need to be refrigerated after it's opened?

No both Marmite and Vegemite dont need to be refrigerated after opening the bottle. But, it should be stored in a cool, dry spot in your kitchen or your pantry.

My son likes Marmite slightly better than Vegemite. I think most people who are unfamiliar with it tend to spread it too thickly at first and end up with regrets.

BTW, Dobrova is way better than Nutella.

Your choice, either way it tastes like decomposed shit.
