Taste Treat: "Flannel" Hash
Made from the leftovers of a New England Boiled Dinner: Potatoes, carrots, cabbage, onions and either ham (my preference) or corned beef.

Dice it up small and fry in a pan with real butter. Salt and lots of pepper.

I don't know but what it's better than the boiled dinner, and that's saying something!

That does sound pretty good. Funny how stuff like that can often taste better on the re-heat.

That sounds good. Will try it after our next corned beef and cabbage dinner.

A cursory search mostly describes flannel hash as red flannel hash and a main ingredient is beets. That'd ruin my fried taters.

If you add cabbage to fried potatoes then it is almost like Colcannon made with fried diced potatoes instead of mashed potatoes. I like to make a potato pancake out of leftover Colcannon.

Out around these parts, it's pretty cut and dried that New England anything has to include mollusks and crustaceans.

Are you tell us different now?

Well, now you know better. Happy to have provided this Learning Opportunity. Big Grin

New England Seafood Treats is a whole other subject and frankly at age 70, I don't think I have enough time left to cover it.

Boiled dinner is one of my favorites! I know I'd love the hash!
