How about that Klingon bat’leth

Not sure I’ve seen a sharpened version but I know they sell them.

6 to 8 lb wood splitting maul. Kind of an axe and sledge hammer combined. Got a lot of practice this winter and built up some endurance.

I'd say it's too sharp and pointy.

Spikes and sharp axes should be carefully evaluated, because really sharp things are easily broken or stuck, and points are similarly cumbersome.

If that 3/4 dowel were hickory, it doesn't need the screws.

I'd go for something like a boar hunting spear.

Don't you think that's a little too single use?

not if I'm fighting, keeps all the fight pretty far away, and pig is pretty close to human so I'm sure it'd be plenty effective.

Anyone with kids knows that Legos on the floor in the dark is the universal melee weapon of choice.....

Caltrops are not a melee weapon, they are an area denial tactic.

I kind of like the Fiskars Super Splitting Axe - it can be used around the yard when not involved in a melee

and it seems like it would be easy to clean

Yeah, I was looking at my choices and they're too sharp. What I really want is something easy to swing that won't get hung up, like a blunt mace. What about a wood baseball bat with a couple of lag bolts screwed into it, it might have to have a thicker handle to make it more durable.

The lag bolts are unnecessary.

I had a Bowie knife mounted on an 18 inch axe handle. It was a great camp tool.
