Ricky Gervais roasting libs to their faces at Golden Globes - If ISIS started a streaming service you would be calling your agents - video
He said it was his last time hosting the show, and we all know if he does it again, we can watch streaming, unauthorized clips of it online before the award show is over even if he does come back, so I don’t agree that this was a stunt to draw more viewers for the next Golden Globe awards. We’ll know when they announce next year’s host, I suppose.

If the show’s producer and staff were “in on the joke,” then it was still a scathing endictment of the whole Hollywood culture delivered live on television to a captive live audience of a lot of people who really looked like they wished they were somewhere else.

Got a kick outta that this morning. Way to go Ricky!

The look on some of their faces and Tom (I'm the most important man in the universe) Hanks was priceless.

Just watched this. It was excellent. Funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I guess he’s liberal but he is definitely against the PC culture. I haven’t seen much of his stuff before yesterday.

Saw it this morning. Just awesome. I don't actually think it was staged. The cameras are not your friend. They'll show you getting an award and zoom in if you trip or if your boob pops out. Also I think if it was pre set they would have toed the line with safer stuff. He waded into them swinging a big ass sword.

As for being blacklisted i imagine he's safe in the UK and has plenty of cash.

Gervais is funny, and this monologue was excellent.

Sad thing is, was a time you could have a discussion with a liberal and find common ground and both of you would learn. Now we have a liberal in the old mold and it is like we found a living dinosaur. Hope this and others pushes crazy back into the walls...but not hopeful.

Gervais is not our friend but he may be the enemy of my enemy.

I don't think it was staged, and do think it caught Hollywood off guard.

And I don't understand why so many on this thread want to try to diminish the significance of it. It was a big deal, he did us all a favor by saying exactly what we have been thinking.

I agree. Relax and just enjoy the moment.

That was great!

He said he didn't care and I believe him. When is the last time you saw the host drinking a beer at the podium? I thought he was hilarious.

Agreed - some people could win the lottery and still complain about it.

He's drank a beer most, if not all times he's hosted. Check out his other sets from year's past on youtube. They too are great.

Why would it matter if the producers knew everything he was going to say? He still said it.

But I doubt that they knew the whole script. When you hire Gervais, you know you are going to get snark and edgy to harsh social commentary.

I know it seems clever and in-the-know to claim it was all some plot to boost ratings. I just don't buy it. Sure, they could anticipate the general tone, but not the specific content.

We were discussing the suggestion that he went rogue, did give a rat's ass, burned all bridges, etc. If the producers of the show were aware of what he was going to do, planned screen shots on those targeted, they were in on it and he didn't go rogue.

That's completely irrelevant to the message he put out there. Just watch the last minute and a half of that monologue where he absolutely filets Apple, Hollywood, et al without mercy. The pure, unlubricated truth.

Like someone else said, whatever the motivation, scripted, whatever, Gervais did America (well everyone really) a favor that night.

If it were a setup, it flopped because the MSM barely covered any of what he said yesterday:

Nets Allow Scant Seconds of Gervais’s BLISTERING Attack on Lefty Hollywood

Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais delivered a blistering, brutal attack on liberal Hollywood, Sunday night, bringing up awkward topics like covering up for Harvey Weinstein. All three morning shows covered the Globes, the outfits and the winners on Monday, but they allowed just seconds to the biting commentary that Gervais served up to the not-so-pleased crowd. CBS This Morning included just 7 seconds to playing the words the comedian actually said. NBC’s Today barely beat that, managing a meager 15 seconds of Gervais. Good Morning America offered the most, 47 seconds of the entertainer’s commentary.

Actually there has been significant backlash today from the Independent, the Telegraph, NPR, Opinion, numerous "woke" leftist columnists, etc. Maybe he did wander off the reservation/script more than many of us thought and contrary to what I posted a page back.
