KevboOh the irony, Dunkin Donuts
So, in the middle of my usual insomnia I decide to pop over to the local Dunkin donuts here on national doughnut day to get my family some so that when they awaken to head to work and school they may enjoy a treat courtesy of dear old Dad
And what do I discover?
They have
No
Doughnuts.
At a Dunkin Donuts
On national doughnut day
Now before you think, well, maybe they were all sold out
Alas, no. I arrived shortly after they opened at 5am and was told by the poor lass behind the counter that they just didn’t have any and she didn’t know why
To which I responded...”so, today, I guess you’re just Dunkin”
She didn’t get it
HAPPY DOUGHNUT DAY EVERYBODY

Nice! Haha. If only they still made their donuts fresh at every store like the old days.....

Last couple of work trips I’ve made a point to find the ‘local’ donut shops.
You know the ones - with legit, made daily donuts - not the mass produced ones.
Mmmmmm gooooood....

justjoeI don't know whether "Duck Donuts" is local, but if not, you need to try the most amazing donut ever. Not only made on premises, but made
to order, exactly the way you want it. Almost crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, warm and melt-in-your-mouth. I have to limit myself to one visit per month, or I'd weigh 300 pounds within a year.

ScoutmasterDuring college I worked at a large grocery chain with an in-store bakery. I would get free samples on morning shifts. I love donuts. But donuts are nothing more than sugar and fat, held together by a little flour.

KevboDuck donuts is not only local, but is barely 1000 yards from my front door
Krispy Kreme not as close but also local
And, some of my favorite, shoppers food warehouse donuts, also local
All worlds better than dunkin
Unfortunately none open before 6. Which is when I had to
Start my commute.

Sooo... This story "should" really end with an unemployed manager, no?
And maybe some disgruntled cops?

RightwireMy buddy stopped at a Starbucks in NW Indiana at around 130pm for a plain black coffee. He was told at the drive through, that they don't have coffee after noon. But if he was willing to wait 20 min they could make some. He was so overwhelmed by witty sarcastic responses that he just drove down the street to Burger King for a cup of sustinance.

GeorgeairNews flash - most small Dunkin Donut shops do not have a kitchen where donuts are made on site. Instead they get a shipment of frozen hockey puck things and a dude heats those up in what is essentially a fancy Easy Bake oven the night before. Their shelf life is precisely <1 day.
I'll take Krispy Kreme, thanks....
On a positive note, their store requirements are each pot of coffee only has a very brief rest time, like 18 minutes or so. That's why the coffee is so good, and for that I'd pick DD.

To each his own. I honestly don't know how people can eat Krispy Kreme's. You might as well just get a 5# bag of sugar and a spoon.
I'll agree on the homemade or local grocers being better.

ensigmaticWe used to have a little, one-off doughnut place down the road, owned by a little old Philippino lady. Made the bestest damn doughnuts ever--especially the apple fritters, which were my favourite.
There was always a group of "old folk" sittin' around, shootin' the breeze and drinkin' coffee.
Made their own Pączki for Fat Tuesday every year, too. Doughnut racks behind the counter would be piled high with Pączki the morning of Fat Tuesday--right to the very tops. You couldn't get doughnuts there on Pączki day.
*sigh* Long gone

. Few months ago they finally bulldozed the building. All we have now is Dunkin' Doughnuts, whose doughnuts aren't that great any more, and places like Walmart, Mejier, Kroger, etc. I imagine there's a Krispy Kreme somewhere around here. Dunno where. (Just looked. 17 and 28 miles away. I ain't goin' that far for donuts.)
So Americans aren't eating as many doughnuts as they used to. "For health reasons," it's said. Yet Americans continue to get fatter and fatter. Huh...

PowerSurgeThe Ingles stores around here make fresh donuts every morning and they are delish.

See, within a year friends would be pushing me in a wheelbarrow through the front door. Year two, they would be rolling me like an enormous beach ball. Year three... there would be no year three. At the end of year two, there would be a huge, hideous spontaneous bursting inside the donut parlor as I ramrodded one final maple sugar delight down my craw, splattering the walls with stuff that looked like frosting and sprinkles, in gobs of doughy goo.

konata88I love donuts and pastries. The problem is that there are very few shops around here that make them well.
So, from my perspective, if we're eating less donuts, it's not because of health reasons, it's because they generally suck.
I actually seek out Japanese and Korean bakeries now - they tend to be better than the average pastry shop around here.

rbert0005You guys have missed the memo. DD is already doing away with the word donuts in their name.
There are a few stores around here like that.
