smithnsigOk. My endodontist buddy got me in to an oral surgeon buddy of his. ( now my buddy too). Basically the ligament/pad that loops around the joint is stretched to the point of dislocaion. It’s a bit complex but he described it with pictures. Put me on a Medrol pak to see if the inflammation will go down enough to allow the pad and ligament to relocate. I go back next week and if it’s not loosened up, he will verify with mri and set me up to have surgery in Birmingham.
Christmas dinner was miserable as we have a seafood feast. I did manage to get a couple of shrimp in sideways, but not many.
Overall it’s not awful except for sleeping/ yawning and eating. ( I did just make myself yawn typing that..).

Rey HRHI was going to say call your dentist and not an ER.
But then, I realized how is he going to communicate?
So how did you communicate with your buddy?
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." My guess is bruxism or clenching. Not a dentist though.

Bruxism/clenching is more commonly associated with muscle tightness or spasms. Disc displacement can occur due to past injury, joint deterioration or partial dislocation from yawning or hyperextension among other things.

matthew03Wow, that sucks. Glad you got an idea of what is going on and a possible fix.
Good luck and keep us informed.

smithnsig*Update*
The methyl prednisone did nothing to unlock my jaw. Looks like surgery is my only option. It will have to be in Birmingham because you beg can’t do it orthoscopicalky here. Should be outpatient with a week of initial recovery. A month I should be good as new.
This is not a life or death issue, and is not super painful, but it is becoming a huge PITA.

Skins2881Hope it goes well, be it life or death or not, still a major PITA that sucks to deal with. May it go smooth and super fast recovery.

Dusty78Just be careful what you eat. If you choke on food it’s going to be a problem. Nasal intubations are not necessarily fun in emergency situations.
They should have also tried some Valium to see if relaxing the muscles would do anything.
