Like her parents, our Golden Retriever loves the weekends together and let’s us know every such morning. Besides her normal morning petting, she picks up on our late starts and brings her toys into the bed... usually indicating that we need to play, give further rubs and has a pretty extensive vocabulary that includes hiking, yard chewing (basically chewing sticks on our hill with the occasional squirrel chase), neighbor trolling (aka walking through the neighborhood), balling (throwing the ball in the backyard) or lounging (staying in bed). When we mention these in any order, even deadpan, she lets us know vocally which she’s most inclined towards. The weather has some influence and we probably signal some inclinations through our expressions, which affect her choice. So while she’s communicative throughout the day, there’s nothing like weekend mornings where my dog is most vocal as to her interactions with us. High likelihood that when we’re altogether in the bed, her behavior has been conditioned to be vocal. In any case, I’m curious when and/or where your dog or pet is most communicative? On the trail, at the door, in the evening or with the kids? I’m looking forward to my Golden’s feedback come Halloween as we’ve decided to dress her up in a Trump outfit. We don’t subject our dog to anything beyond a bandana on occasion but the costume’s likeness is uncanny.

That’s cool. My Golden male starts mumbling grumbling around dinner time. You never hear a peep out of our female but the boy talks enough for 3 dogs! He doesn’t make choices that I can understand but that never slows him down. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

All. The. Time. My pup talks all the time. Talks about what she sees, hears, smells, going for car rides, treats, breakfast, dinner, ball, walks, talks about everything. Now mind you, it's not a constant stream of barking. She makes all kinds of grunts and whines, along with different barks about different things. I understand her most of the time. But just like human women, sometime things get lost in the translation. ARman

My Brittany does all the time, especially when he sees me after I come home. Think more of a "rooooo, rooooo, roooo" sound with varying pitch. When he wants to play his bark is more of a chirp while trying to get me or one of the other dogs to go outside. The big dogs don't talk, they just bark at strangers approaching the house. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
