HornAging iMac - Weighing Options
I have my MBP connected to a large monitor, wireless keyboard and wireless trackpad. Connected to wireless printer. Works great! When leaving home for vacation or otherwise....five seconds and I'm off with my MBP.
So from what I understand....you already have the MBP so your'e close to ready.
G'luck in your choice.

I would not put any money into a machine that is not OS-upgradeable and yours is not because I'm in the same boat with an old 2013 model I was given. It's just not worth the money and hassle to crack the thing open to get to the HDD to upgrade.
I'd go with a Mac Mini.

cyberiadMy wife's iMac is a 2009 model. It has 16GB ram and I've been thinking about replacing the HDD with an SSD but we'll probably end up with a new one. She doesn't need more than a 27" monitor and her current machine doesn't support any later version of the OS than it has now so it's probably not worth upgrading.

After doing some reaearch I have decided that upgrading current machine is off the table as I would need to pay to have the instal done (don't trust myself) and by the time I buy drive and RAM I am into it for more than I want to be.
I am going to, just for fun, do a clean install of the OS and see what that does.
The only thing that got me thinking about a new iMac is with the newer models being announced there are some deals to be had right now and I c an sell what I have for about $400 so it would offset about a third of the expense.
