I think you mean his piston engine airplane was filled with jet fuel. Piston aircraft engines run on avgas. There used to be 80 octane (red) and 100LL (blue), but it is all 100LL in the US now, at least until they figure out unleaded avgas. This is one reason why pilots are taught to be present and supervise the fueling of their airplanes.

We had a Piper set down on the highway here in the 1990s at night, carrying financial records. Yep, that is what happened. My oopsy. I'm not an aviator and wasn't familiar with the nomenclature. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

We had a DC-9 crash on one of my family's developments when they put jet fuel in it. I need to find the photos I took of it. The office was in the roped off area and they let us through. I went outside and stood on one of the trailers to take some photos. One of the guys working the accident saw me (I was 8 years old at the time), came over, and asked if I wanted to get a closer look. He walked me right up to it.

The DC-9 uses turbofan (jet) engines. Did you mean they put AVGAS in it? "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

I've laded on a public road due to wx, and landed at an airport when the carb swallowed the venturi and emulsion tube. The airport landing (sans power) was much more demanding. Also took off 45 mins later on the same road after seeing a sole semi drive by. A T-6 on the shoulder didn't phase the truckerThis message has been edited. Last edited by: aileron,

I had the wrong plane. It was a DC-3, not a DC-9 https://aviation-safety.net/da...rd.php?id=19840109-0 This was the local newspaper article on it: https://www.newspapers.com/cli...rashes_near_lambert/
